i have before have had good luck with just cleaning  & using black silastic pull off the top conector them 2 wires come from the reg , clean around the female 2 pin plug in the case & blow dry ,   try too pull it out just a little bit  & use a feeler gauge too squish the silastic down inbetween   & finnish off with your finger around the base leaving a little beed, let dry over night , clean the female & male plug conectors before fitting & make sure there a tight fit , if it leaks you will have too pull the primary chain & the stator off too fix it proper,

Thanks for the advice daddy r, but where is the oil coming from ? the crank , the primary , the clutch .I was thinking anywhere near the stator would be oil free.

DB, the Stator is in the primary, and that's where the oil is coming from.
I had the same leak after refitting my motor recently.
I cleaned around the grommet with a syringe filled with thinners, then used silicone in the syringe to pump it in behind.
Probably not a permanent fix, but will work until you feel like stripping the primary.

i made a dodo pre 2000 have a stator 2 pin plug , 2000up twin cammer have a 3 wire plug but same fix , it's only a bit of primary oil as long as it's not bad  & going on the rear belt or tyre , but check oil level anyway

It needs to be replaced. It's a solid copper core. Take it to the shop for repairs. Fairly cheap exercise, and a common problem. Silicon does work as a temporary measure.

Thanks for the tips , Ireckon your probably right about the shop price, speedstr ,say I go with silicone method, and it works, what internal damage will be done, the oil shouldn"t be there should it? or is it just being flicked there by the primary or does aseal need replacing or is it just a grommet gone hard .

The stator is inside your primary, behind the rotor and the compensating sprocket. The primary is obviously part filled with oil. (07 softail in pic)

The oil is leaking past the Grommet (probably hard). Can't do any harm to use sealer on the outside.

there is no primary breather it can build a bit of presure up in there , the g/box & the engine have a breather each ,    but there is a lot of oil getting spun up & around as well in the primary
