what is the point of haveing a bike if you sit behind a wind screen . why dont people who are going through a mid life crises do it properly and get a convertable rather than look like a nob on tractor going down the road . they are like people who tow caravans but on two wheels.

Been there, done that. After having so many other bikes without a screen, I'm quite enjoying the feeling of not getting hit by anything for once! If i Don't want a screen anymore, I will jusy buy anonther bike and have the best of both worlds. Works for me. I don't mind being a nob on a tractor either. Ironically, I sold the caravan to buy the tractor.

It's not often I get into a rant but I get peeved when my right of choice is taken away from me.

What is wrong with a windscreen? I find I enjoy my ride more with a screen when I'm riding along the highway at 100km against a headwind than without.

To criticise a rider for using a windscreen remids me of when I first started school in the mid 60's. My mum bought me a yellow raincoat and I got called a sissy when it rained. These days, you can't go on a worksite without PPE e.g. Hi-Vis clothing, boots, helmets etc.

The world would be a boring place if everybody thought the same and I drive a convertable!!!

Why do some old c#%ts whinge and bitch about anything and everything until the cows come home? Who cares if some people like windscreens, twin cams etc, or not. Some people need to realise they're embarrassing themselves constantly and pull their head in

I have ridden through countless storms over the 50 years & a few times on interstate runs, & have ridden straight through as once you are soaking wet, you can't get any wetter. I wish my Triumphs at the time had windscreens as I would have no hesitations about putting them on, a lot better than the detachable face shields I used to use on occasions. And while Hercules comes with a detachable windscreen I prefer to ride el fresco, but kid you not, if the slightest chance of rain on a long cruise, I will put the screen on without hesitation before leaving as not only to protect, but also a safety issue as riding in the rain is dangerous enough with a windscreen let alone without. As far as a mid life crises, I haven't suffered any as I own a Harley, not a Hardley you oil & air polluting Crumpet muncher! Bahahahha As the saying goes: Let those who ride Decide!

well if it isnt ol mate mr trump stirring shit again, well ill have a nibble too. first of all a windscreen goes in a car, its called a windsheild and if you ever rode further then the end of your driveway in the rain your opinion might change.

We did a 14 day trip in Jan last year down GOR and a lap of Tassie , just before everywhere started flooding !
Now i usually don`t ride with one and i had never used the screen on the roadie or the heritage before that , exept for bringing it home from the dealers , thinking why would ya and didn`t exactly like the look meself or the annoying updraft and buffetting it created behind the screen , making me beard go up me nose and in me eyes , along with road dust and shit and seemed to make ya head wobble a bit , didn`t feel right anyway .
Before the trip i though fuck it , im gonna whack the screen on for this trip as there was going to be one car coming along too with the three bikes and if i didn`t like it i would just chuck it in the car , so i took it for a test up the hwy 2 nights before we left and again hated the updraft and buffetting , so the next day i went and bought them 15 inch long HD chrome aerofoils that run down the forklegs for $100 to see if that would make it any better , besides having to get used to the look of em , they worked well and it fixed the updraft behind the screen to being much more bearable and it deffinately made the trip a lot more comfortable coz we got 6 days of rain out of the 14 and although it wasn`t pelting down it was on and off constantly , the 900km last day trip from Melbourne back to Sydney was gail force winds and teaming rain right up till Yass !
I wouldn`t hesitate in using it again on a trip like that , fuck what anyone thinks of it , and besides head butting it a few times when getting on or off the bike , i didn`t mind it at all !
Was actually surprised to see how much bugs and shit splattered all over it which would of otherwise been across ya face and jacket , or crawling out of ya beard ?
Should try it sometime trumpy !
Yeah funny ol`trumpy comin on here to take the piss outa people or their ride , talkin about them lookin like "nobs on tractors" and then admits to owning 4 of them himself , nice one trumpet blower , couldn`t be that stupid pullin one right ?

I love the screen on my Deluxe. I hate getting smacked in the face by bugs and shit. The best thing though is when you travel at 100-110 Kph it's so much more comfortable as you dont have to hang on for grim death and your eyes dont water, and the truck with its uncovered load of rocks and shit dropping micro bullets into your face is something I can live without. Why do people think riding a bike is like being a martyre? Eat shit fuckers I love my screen!!

When I bought my second-hand Fatty, it came with the quick detachable screen & sissy bar. I took both off immediately as I like the clean look, but the sissy bar is priceless for peace of mind when I have one of my kids as pillion as there is no way they can get their hands around my tummy!
I ride the bike in the Melbourne winter and have found the screen very useful when it is pouring rain. Same with longer rides on open roads at highway speeds. There are other forum members who have posted that their bikes have never seen the rain - good on them, its their choice, but I don’t feel that I am any tougher than them because I ride in all seasons and need to do any chest-thumping. Its each individual's choice, just because I prefer something does not mean everyone else has to do the same.

I have a quick detachable screen for my Fatty. I only use it when I feel like it. I personaly like the look of my bike without the screen, but the windscreen does make a long trip a lot more comfortable so I do use it sometimes.

Short runs the screen is off. It's the best of both worlds. It's personal choice. That is why we have Harleys that we modifiy to our own choices. We make them our own to our own personal preferences

    Just my opinion

ok ... i admit i used the screen on the heritage when i rode to Darwin . I couldnt have held on to the bars for long otherwise when "cruising" at 170

and it did save me being coated with bugs ... i have a picture somewhere of my leather pants at the end of each days ride .....fuckin horrible , and when I parked for a few nights at Darwin those horrible green ants made a nest in the bike cause of all the food it offered

Yep, I agree with all of you, I like the look of mine without the "Windshield" but it is a useful tool when needed!
