Hi To everyone, I'm a newbee from Penrith .I bought my new 1200 custom sportster about 9 weeks ago , after waiting 23 years for permision from the financial director.
I'm ready to put it in for its first sevice and I want to get a set of slip ons fitted at the same time as the service. Idon't know which ones to get-At present my sporty sounds like a big sewing machine (crap sound from the pipes).
What I'm looking to achieve is a little more noise, not to much -got to thing of my neighbours, but with the traditional deep growl assiciated with the classic harleys. I have also been told that if I change the mufflers that I will have to fit a new control module and air filter- I've also been told thats crap-I'm so confused as to what to do. I WOULD REALY APPRECIATE ANY INPUT IN THIS DECISION TO BE MADE.
I'm pretty sure my bikes running a little to hot, might just be running in?????
Also bought a new sundowner seat to keep the wife happy (needed a little more padding for her tiny bum), but the seat seems to be a lot looser than the original, I mean it fits ok but there seems to be around 20mm of extra movement- dealer said this is normal, not sure though I thought genuine harley parts were suposed to fit properly???????
HOPING FOR SOME ENLIGHTENMENT FROM THE TECH SAVVY
Regards
Pete
When I first bought my soft tail in '07, I had the stealer drill through the stock baffles. Gave bike a much better sound. That for you could be an option if you only want a better sound with just a touch more performance. If you add a performance air filter kit, then a tuner is definatly needed. TTS & PowerVision would be the go as they retain the O2 sensors & the Harley ECM. The SE race tuner would also work. - Rob
I've got S&S slash cut slip-ons on mine, they look and sound good.
Apparently you don't need the tuner just for pipes, but mine ran rough until I fitted a heavy breather and SERT. So much better, smoother and more power.
A bit pissed off that the dealer fitted the mufflers, put 400 Kms on it (demo bike) sold it ,first service done and no one picked up how rough it was running, even lost the two bolts out of the rear muffler. FFS !
Keep the stockies just incase ya get a defect, so you can change them back.
i think for the price, Australian made Sonic slip ons are hard to beat and they perform as good as anything. they are very similar to american cycle shack. i have them on a 01 Dyna twin cam & with stock head pipe sonic slip ons i've managed 11.2 121.5 MPH trap speed 1/4 mile
if you did get caught useing them & had to change back to stock they are the cheapest & work as well as anything. the chrome on SE slip ons might be better but you pay lots more, with no more HP gain.
good luck with it.
Thanks to everyone for there welcome and input on helping me decide on what slip ons to get- you guys are a wealth of knowledge.
I am , however, blessed with 2 great kids, they have bought me a set of s/e slip ons and are having them fitted this Friday when the bike goes in for service- I'm sure I'll be happy with them as they have been bought with love.
Now, I just have to decide on what tuner and air filter to get. I've heard some good reports about the Cobra SuprPro tuner (just plug in and go- ANY OPINIONS, I'd appreciate the input. also while I'm at it whats peoples take on Xieds leads ??????????????????
Thanks again to all who have replied (I have taken all comments on board).
