When i had my 06 sporty i used to change the oil half way between services without changing the filter ( no filter wrench ) i fig'er the small amount of oil thats left will just mix with the new oil and cause no harm .

i'v done this once with my 08 dyna ,

I was always taught that you change the filter with every second oil change - though lots of people do it every time. I should prolly do mine now...

The difference is $25 a year.

I change my filter every time I do an oil change, cars bikes trucks boats etc, dont like old oil mixing in with new stuff.

On the dyna I take the plugs out and wind the bike over a few times to purge the rest of the old oil out too, fit fussy with oil.

How often (in Ks) do you guys do an oil change would be my question then?

I have changed to synthetic oil now so I do my oil and filter every 5000km, It makes it easier to keep track of (eg: 15,000km then 20,000km then 25,000km etc). I change the tranny and primary oil every 10,000km on alternating engine oil changes, that way I only have to change two oils at any one time
