Hi Peter Here, from Penrith NSW.
I'm an older guy in my mid 50's and I haven't owned a bike for nearly 23 years (had a Honda Elsinor, Honda VF400 and Kawasaki 650), Then allas, got married had kids and didn't ride anymore. I have been trying to get permission from my wife to get a Harley for nearly the same amount of time. 8 weeks ago she finally gave in and gave me permission to buy a Harley-bought it within a week. My pride and joy is a 2012 1200 sportster custom. I had to change the seat over to a Sundowner with removable sissy bar and back rest- keeps the wife happy as the seat is more comfortable for her cute little bum- however the seat does't seem to fit as well as the original, there is quite a bit of movement untill you sit on it then it's fine-Is this normal??????
I'm doing the bonding thing with my 23yr old son, he has a ninja 650- we go on weekend rides but its real hard, no impossible, to keep up with him.
The other thing I am going to do real soon is to put on a set of slip ons but I am so confused with whats out there. I'm really not happy with the stock mufflers (sounds like a sewing machine). What i really want to achieve is a LITTLE MORE NOISE but with the deep throaty sound from the traditional Harleys- am I looking for the impossible with this current bike????
Will I void my warranty with after market mufflers
Will I need to change the air filter and fit a tuning module.
Some people tell me that I won't need to change the filter or tuning module others say I definately will- I'm confused again .
I've perused this forum for a couple of weeks and read some good stuff- there are quite a few of you out there with lots of knowledge and experience- hope some of you can guide me through my enquiries.
I know my bike is nothing flash compared to some of your guys bikes but once I figure out how to post some picture I'll show of my pride and joy and also my wife.
Hope to talk with some of you real soon
Regards, Pete
