Hi, Has anyone got the Kuryakyn Crusher mellow mufflers and how do you like them, how quiet are they?
I have ordered a set plus Kuryakyn true duals for my 2012 Ultra
    Cheers

I run them on my 09 Ultra with factory header but cat gutted. They have a fine 'snarl' when you get on it, and the decel rap is the best I've heard in a long time. Personally I think they are a wee bit loud when your cranking on it but at cruise in 6th very nice 'mellow' sound.

Comments on other boards suggest they make pretty good power. You know they are made for Kury by V&H? Also excellent chrome and beautifully made. Very happy.

    Hey V2 Evo96
Do you have the Crusher mufflers or the Crusher mellow's ??
The Mellows are supposed to be quieter, well I hope they are.
I guess the Kury true duals are then V&H also
    Cheers

I have the Crusher mellows -- well at least that's what the box has written on it. LoL.. Mine may be a bit louder than they would normally be as I have gutted the cat which probably provided some damping effect when it was still in the header.
Overall I'm very happy with them, but I reckon they won't meet the prescribed DB level in Vic. Cruise paste would be OK but on the throttle no way. If for some reason you install them and don't want to keep them let me know, as I have a riding mate who may be interested.

May I ask where you ordered your from? I got mine from M&M in the states.

    Hey V2
Got them from Direct Cycle parts in states.
I am sure if they are a bit loud I will find a way to quieten them down.
I believe V&H were or are the makers and they have quiet baffles.
    Cheers
    Steady

steady-- it's my understanding that V&H does make quiet baffles that can be installed into the regular (louder) crushers, but I see nothing factory made for the mellows. Not to worry mate-- they do soud great-- and if ya need to quiet them down a bit I'm sure there will be a way to do it.
If you still have your cat installed I reckon they will be ideal. Let us know how you like them.

    Hi V2
I am not sure but I think the mellows are the crushers with quieter baffles.
When I do finally get them and fit them up etc I will let you know how they went.
I have also ordered a set of true duals so no cat installed. Did this to get the heat down and add some zip. Just hope I am on the right track.
Fitting a "Kury Ally Cat " Air assembly.
    Using a PCV for fuel.
    Chat soon mate and cheers

Removing the cat did indeed cut down the heat factor-- BIG difference. No performance gain noted at all as I believe any gain would be related to the original restricted flow through the cat if it were intact. The HD honeycomb looking cat would, in my opinion, not restrict the flow through the system. I do feel that a intact cat would provide some sound dampening though.
Let us know your thoughts-- cheers to you too.

    Hi V2
I was going to gut my cat as you have done but decided on the true duals.
The heat is the biggest concern and I think the cat-less system should make the difference I am looking for.
I brought the temp right down on my 08 softail custom and made it much more enjoyable to ride.
This thing is murder after a highway run and then back to closed loop
Anyway I am looking forward to receiving them.
    Thanks for the chats
    Cheers

So are we saying that fixing a penny washer mid way along a cheese grater style baffle would reduce the noise level?

What effect would this have on performance?  I assume it is a trade off.

    Cheers,

I bought a set of Kuryakyn Crusher Power Cells for my Dyna and the supplied baffle was just the cheese grater.  No wrap or anything on it.

The first time I took it out I got pulled and warned about the noise so I stuffed some Krome Works baffles up there which (I thought) improved things.  I got another warning...

Rather than risk getting a defect I went back to stock for a while but I would like to put the K pipe back on as it looks the business.  Maybe I will try some of Bunnings finest and a bit of wrap.

    Cheers,

    FatRob

BTW I did ask Kuryakyn about additional muffling and they just replied that they don't (didn't) offer any alternatives.

Hey Phil, I realise we are talking about different systems but I was hoping the priciple would be the same.

Good thinking on the V and H option though.  I will look into that.

    Cheers,

    FatRob.

Hey fellers, I fitted the true duals and mellow crushers and they are still louder than I would like. Mine do have the washer with small hole in baffle. Now I am wondering if I pulled the baffles and changed the material from the steel wool with some other sort of baffle cloth. I am open to suggestions and where to acquire it from. The other thing is I might be able to get a bit more back pressure which might add a bit of lost torque with the true duals. Just changing the material might also change the tone into something even sweeter. Cheers
