Well Its running and I have heat cycled it afew times.

Still waiting for my new air cleaner to come in this week so haven't ridden it yet.

My question today is when it warms up it's got a pretty noticible tick/knock in the front rocker box.

Is it possilble for the rocker to be hitting the cover with a se259e cam?

Used the SE perfect fit pushrods this time, still have my adjustables to reuse later if I need to.

Also did a cold compression test and it reads 176 psi front and back. Does that sound about right?

Now how about this one, with both plugs out I rotate the engine by the back wheel and when I stop both cylinder plug holes still hiss for about a minute.

    WTF,  can't be cylinder pressure.

Could it be vacuum in the crank case sucking past the rings? Is that normal?

    ??????????????????????  opinions?

In the cylinders, you can hear it through the plug holes

I would of thought 176psi is a bit low, not a 100% sure nver done a stageIV kit

    I get 175psi outa a stock 96ci

That's exactly what my 96 had.

Its only run for 5 minutes in the garage.

Will it come up when it wears in?

    Suppose to have 10.5 - 1 comp with a 47 inlet close I think.

Head gasket was 50 thou uncompressed.

Maybe I should have used something thinner.

Farkin .050" head gasket what did ya use a plastic BBQ plate, I would have used a .030" cometic HG

with what you are telling us and using 85cc as head chamber size the BigBoyz calculator has it at 177psi and 9.76/1 no wonder the stage IV I have seen around are slug boxes until about 4000rpm
use a .030 HG and your looking at 186psi and 10.14/1 now thats getting better

roller rockers or stock rocker arms ? if roller you will have to grind under the lid's

    Ando,

9.7  fuck they advertise at 10.5 with that gasket,

Pricks if i knew that I would have held off and got a Cometic 0.30.

I'll see how it runs on the week end, if it feels sluggy I'll pull the heads again.

Daddy I pulled the rocker covers and all seems OK can't see any rubbing.

TDC lifts are 0.182 inlet and 0.155 exhaust.

Dumb question but the SE perfect fit pushrods go in with the thin taper at the top and the fat end at the bottom right?

DK with a 579" lift cam and heavier valve springs I would suspect it to be noisier than stock

also DK you have a domedd piston with that kit, yeh?

    Ando,

Yeah I know but the rear seems OK and  the front taps pretty loud.

The pistons are 22144-08, I searched around and the dome is 6cc I think.

With that 0.50 slab of a head gasket that works out at 10,6 on the calculator. gasket compressed to 0.45.

Do you think my 177psi cold cranking will come up when the motor runs in?

Should be closer to 195psi yeah?

Have to confirm the dome cc's

did you have the engine warm (not hot) when checking the Compression, probably find that it will raise a bit when warm

with ya front rocker noise did it take much for the for lifters to bleed down? Does it get quieter as the engine warms up? my have a suspect lifter, plenty of talk about harley's new "C" lifters being a little dodgy

if its a lifter find some "B" lifters or S&S lifters

    No, checked it cold.

Front is OK when cold gets worse as it warms up.

    Lifter bleed down probably 20min - 30min.

DK did you check the pistons weren't coming in contact with the valves?

It might be worth checking your cam timing, if your valves are opening at the wrong time they could come in contact, not saying that's what it is, but just putting options out there, hope you get it sorted, that build doesn't go too bad at all

Going nuts waiting for this filter to come in so I can take it for a blast.

Haven't fired it up again till I can ride it and see how it goes.

I'm gunna run it in hard only because I'm an impatient prick. and see how she feels and sounds after that.

No way I could ride around for 500ks and not make it work hard,

If its still tapping I might throw my adjustable pushrods in first and see how it goes.

Hope I'm raving about how good it is by next week.

Been disappointed with stage 1 an 2 in the past.

Your auto decomps will give you 176 all day unless you turned them off for the comp test. With a 48 close on the cam you will have over 200 psi with acr turned off.

    Lushy,
Had a play yesterday and pulled the fuse, getting 125psi off and 180psi on.
Does that sound right for a fresh top end that's only run for 5 minutes?

If you have stage 4 with 259E cam 10.5 comp and 48 close as you say you should see 200.or a bit more. Bedding in the rings will add maybe 10 -12 psi. Your gauge may be dodgy. If the motor is assembled correctly etc then you should be OK.
