I have a 2 months old switchback with about 1000Ks on the clock. I've had no problems, but today I got about 5 Ks and the oil light came on and engine stopped. It restarted OK and I rode it back home with no more probs.
I know this is a stoopid question, but I know nothing about bike mechanics and have never had problems before with any of my other bikes.
There are no oil leaks and am now going to check oil level.
I really wanted to go for a long ride today, but am now unsure. Am I unduly worried or is this something that can happen on a new bike.
Cheers
John
Engine oil is at 3/4 level
Thanks Hmmm,
Such a great day for a ride too.
cheers
If no codes are logged you should be fine to ride. The new bikes run hot because of the EPA regs and yours may have stumbled from a tight motor when it went into EITMS mode. When the engine went to one cylinder the idle dropped causing the oil light to come on from low revs and low oil pressure. EITMS shuts a cylinder down when the engine gets to 288 F on all Harleys since 2008.
Hi guys, I'm BRAND spankin' new to this forum and was having a read about Switchbacks when I stumbled on this.
First I noted that the rider was non-mechanical (and that is fine, I'm not that special with spanners, either) so perhaps....and only perhaps the obvious was overlooked. When stalling...the red light would come on??? Perhaps in the confusion/distress of stalling it was assumed that oil pressure was an issue? I could be way off the mark, too!
What is the general consensus of the Switchback? I'm new to HD but have had all sorts of other bikes....including an arm-stretching Rocket 3.
The Switchback seems to fit the bill for how I like riding these days. Cheers
