Site changes, new sections, new rules (less)

In response to some members concerns about posts being locked or deleted on the forum, we've come up with some new ideas to keep everyone happy.  Two main changes will occur on the site.  Firstly, two new sections will be created on the forum: "Off topic - members only" and "Take it outside - members only".  Topics that would have previously been removed or locked will now be moved (in most cases), to the new off topic section.  And threads which turn into shit fights will be moved to the "Take it outside" section, and allowed to burn themselves out.

Secondly, the site rules have been simplified down to three simple guidelines:

    Forum Guidelines

    1) No legally actionable content or workplace actionable content

    • Such as damaging the reputation of an Australian small business or person.

    • Such as posting porn pictures, most people use the site at work and viewing porn on work computer can get people fired.

    2) No spam

    • Such as promoting a competitor forum.

    3) No unwarranted abuse directly towards the site or the admins

    • The site and the admins are here to encourage riding and open discussion don't use the site to bag the people who run it.

That's it, three simple and fair guidelines.  From here on site admins will do what they should be doing, promoting the site and encouraging people to ride.  We may not always agree with what people write but  from here on we will respect your right to say it.  No more politically correct bullshit from us.

So... Can we just be clear on the following...

    1) No legally actionable content or workplace actionable content

Such as damaging the reputation of an Australian small business or person.

So... If I was to take my bike to "Joe Blow Engine Builders" and for whatever reason they did something to fuck my bike - OR - They somehow ripped me off, maybe by say, charging me to swap out my Cam Tensioners with nice shiney gold encrusted ones, but they actually didn't - because I opened the Cam chest up and had a look...  I still can't mention the name of the guy or the business??

    That's politcal correctness right there.

Why could we not have that moved into a Members Only section - It would at least keep Joe Public from reading it.

As long as the facts are being written, then it's not slander.  If my opinion is the guy is a dickhead - then he can take it up with me!

Its a whole new world, this internet thingy, I note that the cops are on tv virtually begging people to not comment on cases on social media cause there worried that jury may be unduly influenced and the prosecution may loose a case cause of it. When you think about the types of crimes some people have to answer, they have a point.

The law with naming buisnesses on the internet is probably in , try to catch up mode, but i think the world is moving to fast, for a rational debate.

Hi Gooone, searching the web during your break shouldn't be an issue.
Plus everyone knows that the WEB was designed for looking at PORN, so what's the issue.

Plus if they fire a person for looking at porn, there's normally other reasons, a good worker they'll turn a blind eye, always have always will.

I can tell you that I have many large and government clients that ENCOURAGE the use of internet and social media during work hours.

Just have a look at recent Public Service Collective Agreements! Facebook has been opened up for use etc. So yes... there may be plenty of people looking at this forum during work hours.

    TOTALLY agree with you Rodders.

I can tell you that I had the opportunity to work for IBM. Asked around a few mates, and the story was all the same. RUN SCREAMING!! They have THE, yes THE worst reputation and culture to work for. So, I declined the offer.

It is a digital world, and when companies realise that happy workers are productive workers, they will reap the benefits.

It's a shame that companies demand the best from their workers, but don't want to give the best back. Idiots!
