Any blame here on the part of the car driver do you think? Apparently it's all the riders fault.

I can understand where they are coming from with the whole speed thing. I rode jap bikes for years and when I was in my early 20's, I only had two speeds; go and stop. Running out of talent and crashing into a Mercedes hard top convertable tends to add some perspective into altering ones riding style. Having said that, motorcyclists are not the only ones who do wrong on the road. Motorists yakking away to their mate, driving pissed and texting on their phone are things we see all the time and its wrong. Far more wrong than being 8kms over the speed limit. But, there is no point being 'right' if it costs you your life or the ability to walk.

Just another poor offering from our beloved TAC here in Vic I'm afraid.....

Now this on the other hand.....

    http://youtu.be/B5rTIODzzC8

    ....and the difference...?

It was funded, created and shared by motorcyclists, unlike the tripe that the organisation "responsible" for road safety dishes up.....

shame the car didnt see him,

I am not going to take sides here lads... but a couple of things of note....

Over 75% of ALL motorcycle crashes are rider error. Yeah - The spin in that ad above is because they are only looking at when the car pulled out in front or across. Its carefully worded.

Physics can tell pretty close to how fast the rider or car was doing when it locked up the brakes. The weight of the bike or the car with locked wheels has a friction point. The distance of the skid is used to determine how fast the bike was travelling. Its just mathematics!! They can't tell exact, but close enough to know that 8 kms an hour could make a huge difference. If you were to graph the deceleration curve, you will see how just a few kms can make a huge difference.

BUT ... I agree with some... More education for drivers that drive on autopilot!! I see it every day!! :(

Yep! Not being heard is probably the worst! I had a sports bike come up out of nowhere beside me the other day, and it's only because I am constantly in my mirrors when I drive that I even knew he was there.

Also the fact that the dickhead sat right in my blind spot.

Maybe they should have used this guy to show collisions can be avoided by skidding the rear tyre.  Gotta love youtube for the things that pop up when you are looking at something else.

    He avoids the van nicely....

I'm not advocating this type of riding on the street in fact it's not, but you have to appreciate his skill and talent.

    Cheers

One time me mate and i were going to his house , i was on my ol`heritage and he was on a fairly new yamaha fjr with an adjustable electric windscreen , we were both in the left of 2 lanes him in front , i booted it and veered into the right lane where a lady was travelling in her tarago 150 mtrs ahead , hearing me coming up behind her with them noisy staggered bigshots she hit the indicator and veered straight into the left lane where me mate on his yamaha was goin hard , not wanting to be out done and almost neck and neck with me , she almost side swiped him to the point he had to veer into the next left hand turning lane sending him in totally wrong direction to where we were going , his house !
He had no choise as she kept movin over on him , wasn`t stoppin and near side swiped him , he shit the gear but pulled off a nice evasive manouver before having to hook back onto the road we , me and the tarago lady were travelin on , every now and then he tries to give me the usual shit about me harley that he reckons doesn`t go stop or turn , so i just remind him of the time he got lost on the way back to his house that day and that doesn`t it sorta bother him that his misses always wants to jump on the back of my HD , if my missus isn`t on it , when we`re out ridin , it usually shuts him up pretty quick !
Though he sometimes can`t help himself and wheelstands past me with his girl clingin onto his back , so yeah no wonder she wants to get off it , lol ?

You guys are all missing the point here, it wasn't the car directly that killed the dude it was those fucking dangerous helmets they make us use! All that add done for me is proof in the pudding of what I have been preaching for years, Helmet are a fucking danger & should be banned!~ This was brought home to me when about 25 years ago I came a gutsa landing head first suffering a slight cut at the top of my head that bled like a wounded pig! The treating doc having insisted that I spend the night in hospital due to the concussion. When discussing how it came about that i split the scalp skin, the doc said to me that I was lucky I wasn't wearing a helmet, as the way I landed on my head there was enough give in my skull & neck to prevent serious injury at that slow speed, where as if I was wearing a helmet at the time, the same accident would have in all probability snapped my neck like a twig, as the helmet would have made my Head & neck to rigid! Thank fuck for helmet exemptions at the time! Bahahhaah.

When I'm in my car and I'm pulling out like that and cannot see down one lane, I slowly edge out until I can see if it is clear. I see the point of the add, but even doing the speed limit can't help you sometimes.

I did a post on here a while back how, in heavy traffic, a woman started to change lanes on me and then at the last minute, corrected herself.

I asked her later on if she saw or heard me, she said she heard me.

Blindspot was not an issue in this case as I was beside her moving with the traffic in my lane. She didn't look properly as a lot of drivers don't.

    Noise DEFINATELY works.
