Build your own bike lifter

Got bored on a minesite this week - found me some steel and got stuck in - this is what I was trying to make

Step 1 - Cut your bits to size ,

The 8 bits of RHS are 200mm long, the 4 bits of round bar are 500mm , the pipe is 350mm , the plates are 50,70 and 75mm , the short pipe is about 100mm and the long pipe is 1200mmm long.

Step 2 - grind the ends of the RHS -

Step 3 - weld most of the bits together - dont weld the round bar parts all the way just yet or it will be hard to assemble

Step 4 - assemble the main part and weld in the last 2 bits of RHS

Step 5 - weld on the stopper - note that I fucked this bit up so I had to cut another piece of flat bar because I was too lazy to cut it off and grind up the dags.....

Step 6 - weld the short piece of pipe to the side for the handle to fit into and the job is done. Took me about 3 hours .Dropped it off to my mate today who is going to sandblast it then I will fit some hose over it to stop the bike getting scratched and its good to go.

I was thinking of making my own lift/jack, but after remembering the costs involved for the metal when I made a kickbag stand I just went and bought one instead :) Pity I have nowhere to grab offcuts of pipes and stuff.

Malz sell an ATV hydraulic lift for $179 Beeza. I bought one a few weeks ago.

It is rated for 600+ kg and the rails are just the right width for a HD.

It is pretty much the same as this one without the air operated pump.

    Hope this helps

    cheers

    I've got this.

Made by my mate about 7 years ago, only consumable is the bit of carpet I tek screwed onto it.

Works perfect for softails and my Road King, not so good for Streetbob though because of the sump that hangs down at the back.

It's perfect for washing the bike, super stable and allows me to spin the wheel to clean it, then I just move it forward about six inches and lift the front wheel.

If do anything more serious than washing, I have the bike lifter.
