over the time ive had it, mt 04 FXD has had a habit of throwing codes. I know what they are but what do they actually mean.

b1141 ignition swich low voltage.  my swith works and appears to be fine.

u 1301 serial data high? wtf?

Wnat do tney actually refer to?

    Tnanks

     thanks for the reply.

Ive seen many threads that say what the codes are, but none that tell you what to do next.  If my ecm data is high, or Ive got ignition switch low voltage, What do i do next?

Is there a follow on list or flow chart out there?

These may just be spurious code thrown up once in a blue moon, but One day I would like to cure them not just clear them.

    Taff,

I will not be able to help you directly due to time constraints, but what I did do from my Harley 09 FXST Repair Manual (HD #99482-09).I started with the code you quoted above U1301 (serial data open/high) which has its own heading in the trouble codes section of the Electrical part of the Service Manual.

Opening up the link, there are pictures of where the item is to start checking (serial data connection), from this after the inital voltage checks are completed and there is still a problem there are other links that take you to the various components that require inspection and electrical testing prior to moving onto the next step in the process. I would not like to make an armchair assessment of your issues unless I have had the same experience and issues, but I assure you that if you have the patience you will get to the bottom of this through these guides.

I also did a quick "what if" and looked at different areas where the links took me, it looks quite comprehensive with photos of actual bike components, electrical diagrams broken down into the actual circuit that you are testing/inspecting and all this with flowcharts to show were to go next or retrace back. One of the big bonuses on HD electrical circuits is that all the connections are numbered in the diagrams and have this number cast onto the actual connection.

I was not able to find the B1141 code reference, this must be specific to 04 FXD's

I bought my Service Repair manual from "Repair Manuals on CD" email customcdcreation@gmail.com some time ago and it has been invaluable for just the reasons you are going through now, I also purchased a model specific spare parts catalogue at the same time and it has also been invaluable.

    Good luck, Paul

B1141 has two meanings being HFSM or B1141 TSM does your bike have a alarm system. Anyway B1141 you may have a problem with your blinker system.
U1301 can be logged if your engine stalls after start up does this happen with your bike ?

yea the bike did stall before and came up with "ser bus error' engine light and key light flashed. There is no alarm!

Thought the b1141 was ignition swithch low voltage. will have to check that one again.

Thanks for the answers, keep them coming!

The U1301 code needs to be tested at a dealer because it sounds like your problem codes are related to your TSM or ECM. My diagnostic manual is for my 07 EFI tourer and there's no section for a carb. I would start by checking the connections to the TSM and ECM for corrosion inside the main plugs and use a electrical grease when re-plugging. There a shit load of tests in my manual as there's three different sections in the manual for U1301 there's one for the EFI page 4.35 . one for the instruments page 2.42 and one for the TSM/HFSM page 3.73 for EFI.
b1141 is also related to the TSM (Blinkers) and could be the problem with both b1141 and u1301 codes coming up.
Like I said above check all the plugs and add grease and then clear the codes before starting and check to see if they come back up.
