Righto. The weather is getting better and my time in vic is getting short. I have to do the GOR before I pack up and head back to the Ville. I love the place but there aint no corners for hours.

Leaving from work (Heathcote) on Fri and picking up a mate or two on the way. Was planning on somewhere South of Ballarat (suggestions) on Friday night. Up Saturday drop in at Anglesea then head west along the GOR turning around at some point then stopping Saturday night leaving no more than a 5 Hr trip home on Sunday (back to Nagambie).

I have a few questions. Suggestions welcome.

    1. where is the good bits and where is the bits to avoid.

    2. where is the good bike friendly pub stops (overnight type) down that way.

    Over to you.

    Regards

Marvin/Russ, I keep forgetting which one.

I did GOR a couple o months ago(car). Stayed in Apollo Bay for a couple of nights. There is. Cracking pub at Lorne too. I got on wotif.com.au stye in a great place directly opp the beach for about 125 a night. Pubs wont be too much chepe, this joint ad foxtel, jacuzzi, full kitchen. The ride would be a cracker, bloody cold and windy, very wild country out that way. Good luck, enjoy.

If you can, I would give Anglesea a miss and head inland to Lorne via Deans Marsh. Great road as long as it's dry.
The traffic really sucks the closer you are to Geelong, but free's up around Lorne as most don't go any further.
Also not much point going any further than Port Campbell for a short trip.
I would then back track to Apollo Bay, and head inland again via Skenes creek road.

My wife and I did GOR in '06 early October by car from Adelaide. Stayed a few nights @ Warmbool before basing ourselves at Apollo Bay. We did day trips to Lorne & Torquay. Was a little cool at that time of year but had nice sunny spring days though. Be nice to do it again this time by bike, but summer time would have to definitely be a must. I thought the drive through the Ottways was great, but hated being stuck behind overseas tourists driving camper vans. I don't think they know what a turnout is meant for, as they never used any while I was following them. I still have fond memories though, and recommend anyone to do it.
