Error code P1475

    Hi gurus.

Have had the engine light coming on (as it normally does on switch-on), going off normally, then coming on a few seconds later (with or without the engine going) and staying on for about 10 secs, then going off again.

I get error code P1475, which, after consutation with the web is, I think,  Exhaust Actuation Position Error . The bike's got stock exhausts (which I like), and stock engine.

    Suggestions please. Keep 'em clean.

    Gonzo.

    It's an 07 RKC

    Thanks, Scotty.

I reset the code and started the bike this morning, and the error hasn't come back (yet). I haven't touched the exhaust valve, so whatever's happened the bike did it on its own.

I did notice that there's a squeak when the valve returns to the open position after you blip the throttle, so maybe there's some sort of jam there. I'll follow the checking procedure you posted.

    Thanks again, Scotty.

I decided to stick the bike up on the lifter and have a look.

I looked at the exhaust valve and tried to disconnect the cable, but the cable was very tight. I then followed it and discovered the actuator above the swingarm pivot. I poked about for a while then noticed this:

Does this look like the cable outer is not sitting in the spot it's supposed to be? I tried pulling the cable to lift it into that spot but the cable inner is too tight. This raises an interesting problem. My hands need to be about 1/4 of the size they are to get in there. The actuator seems to have thru-bolts that go thru the bottom of the battery case. I'm not even sure the actuator will fit out through the available openings between the engine and the frame, so to take the bastard out will involve a considerable amount of stuffing around....

    So, some questions:

Is the cable outer wrongly located?

If so, how do you get slack in the cable inner to allow the outer to be re-positioned?

Do you then have to "re-calibrate" the actuator for the end positions?

    OK, I've solved the problem.

    1. The squeaking was not from the exhaust valve, but from the actuator as it was pulling against the cable which was out of position. I'm a bit deaf, so it was difficult to determine where the noise was coming from.

    2. The bike shuts off with the exhaust valve open and the cable pulled, and therefore the inner was at its minimum. To get some slack I used use the special tool I carry around for just such occasions - brute force. I jemmied the valve in the closing direction a bit with a screwdriver and found that I could move the actuator mechanism, and then hooked a piece of stout string around the cable outer and pulled like, well, a lot. The actuator made a funny noise like a reduction gearbox, and presto, I had some slack to work with.

    3. I clipped the cable back where it's supposed to go, and it's all working. No squeaks, no error codes, no sweat.

I guess the error codes occurred when the cable outer jammed the actuator every now and then.

Again, thanks for your help Scotty.

Scotty to the rescue again... :)

I have a Street Bob and get a similar intermitant problem with the engine light after washing bike. Have PCIII and for those with PCIII the main connector has a tendancy not to be that waterproof
