Diseal in your petrol?

Pulled up at Kunungra the other day for a latte, (Yep, I know) & was parked next to a older bloke who owned some sort of Yamaha 1700cc I think, anyway we started talking bikes when I mentioned his pipes were running a bit rich. He replied it was the diseal he added to the fuel to keep the engine clean. When I questioned him somemore this is what he had to say. A while back he went to an automotive shop to buy some Micky Mouse (The Grouse) carbon, carby & injection cleaner, as he walked out of the shop he was reading the ingrediance of the product, & he notices that it was made from 98% petroulum by product, having been in the industry for years he nee it was diseal so he went back into the shop to querry this product. The salesman confirmened it was 98% deasil, & when asked what the other two % were, he was told, 1% was colouring & 1% scent. So he advised me to use about a small yogurt cup (140grams) to a full tank (18l) once a month, he reckons the plugs, valves, heads etc are clean as a whistle, & runs beautifully all the time! He also reckons he has used it for a few years!  Now in 50 years at this game this is the first time I have heard this & this is why I have posted to get some brain trust on this question. So what do you guys reckon?

Well i thought i'd better post. those two links you put up Willi are from USA diesel used to be a lot cheaper over there, so they are just trying to save $.

but don't start putting Diesel into a petrol motor unless you are looking for trouble. in the old days before unlead fuel, all the pumps had the same pump nozzle diamiter & all the fuel taks had same large filler kneck. it was common to see people miss fuel & put diesel into a petrol tank then fuck there motor. same as because unblead has a small nozzle & diesel still has the old bigger nozzle, some people miss fuel diesels, but you have trouble getting a large diesel nozzle into a petrol tank filler kneck, so don't see diesel miss fueling in petrol now. if you use BP 98 Ultimate it will clean your injectors & clean up the chamber.  who wants a smoky bike?

the best fuel aditive ever is Nitro!

Would have thought that the black shit you noticed in his exhaust was a pretty good indication of what adding a lesser flash point and octane rated fuel was doing for the donk.

De-rated fuel, de-rated engine performance ? The more diesel ya put in a petrol engine the worse it runs.

Anyways, I'm not gunna change ta diesel,,,,,, I 'm more than happy with popping a few Viagara's in the tank every now and then !

The practice of putting a small quantity of diesel in the gas tank was usually done by farmers and businesses that had gasoline engines that were used irregularly like grain augers that would only see use at harvest , a portable shearing stand, water pumps etc, the engines in these machines were usually low compression side valves with a relatively low power rating, the purpose of the exercise was to act as an upper cylinder lubricant to stop valves from sticking in guides and rings jamming in pistons after extended periods of being unused .
Some old folklore about internal combustion engines has morphed into fact, the addition of various lotions, potions, pills, etc is appealing to some people out there but the fact is, there is no substitute for the correct grade of fresh fuel for the engines design and intended use, modern fuels have additive packages that cover most use variables that occur today and if you need to store your bike for an extended period of time most manufacturers give very good instructions for the best storage of their products.

If you want an Octane bump just use toluene 10%. Stops pinging dead. Safe for carby and fuel injection.

Toluene is also known as rocket fuel that was used in turbo F1 cars that made 1000hp from 1.5 litre engines and then banned.

Nowadays toluene it is sold as octane booster (94%) or Solver paint thinner.

If you want to clean injectors or valves add a small amount of trans fluid......... or pay 5x more for fuel injection cleaner.

Clean moisture from tanks just add methylated spirts or a litre of E85 (ethanol/petrol mix).

A low volume of diesel in fuel has been in common use. It's a great injector cleaner and has amazing lubricating properties. About 50-100ml per tank is all you need and not everytime either. Know several people that swear by it and have been doing it for years.
