    hi guys

just installed a set of V&H big radius pipes on to my 07 883 sportster along with a V&H duke air cleaner kit and a fuelpak

just took the bike out for a ride and noticed that the bike has a poping noise coming out of the pipes on deacceliration and anyone else have these pipes on their bike have or have had this problem ?? not to sure of thats how the pipes sound ?

    thanks

Most engines will pop or crackle on the over-run but the construction of the mufflers will stop you hearing it. Straights and more open baffle mufflers don't and the crackling is quite noticeable; a few pops on over-run is common, but if you are getting more than that then it would be abnormal. Air leaking into the exhaust will cause excessive popping, so it is worth checking all the seals and gaskets - especially the header gaskets - to make sure they are sealing properly and are tight. It can also be caused by excessively lean or rich fuelling, but that's less common than stuffed or loose gaskets and makes a slightly different sound. Some non-HD bikes have EPA systems which inject air into the exhaust valve outlet at the top of the header on throttle roll-off and they crackle a lot with after-market exhausts.

Popping is a reality that I can live with - a referral to the Dept. of Environment for 'excessive noise' isnt.  Hmmmm, the baffles weren't removed so has anyone any smart ideas on how to avoid a fine???

How loud are they compared to stock (without the SmartPartz baffles)? The pipes certainly look the part, but I'm not looking for undue attention!

Thanks for the web address and also want to know noise reduction (from what I've read the baffles bring down the pitch).

Below pic finally have the saddle on - thought the cops might ping me for the 5 1/2" hole on the fender but no, it was all about the noise

ok so the baffles turned up the other day so i thought i had better get them fitted !!

so my thoughts on the baffles

Yep the do quiten down the big radius pipes they are spot on now they are at an acceptable noise level now and they also got rid of the popping i was getting on deceleration

so if you have big radius pipes and want to quite them down

i recommend smart partz hardkore baffles

    they work a treat
