Stock '04+ 1200 heads have a different (bathtub) chamber, have bigger valves & flow much better. For a conversion your 883 heads will still make killer power with some headwork but more can be done with 1200 heads. Hammer Performance have an excellent tech article on their website about all the different evo XL heads.

For compatibility the '07+ efi 1200 heads imo would be best & can take oversize valves up to 2.0" (intake), I think the max for 883 heads is 1.760". Bang for buck though I would just get your 883 heads done, even better if you can score some cheap 883 or 1200 heads locally & send them away for some work, you'll still have the use of your bike while you wait.

You should flick an email to Hammer, they are the gurus with this stuff & are quick to respond.

Hey 666 if you are really keen I've still got my heads, barrells, pistons, cams etc. from when I done my upgrade through NRHS. They are off my 09 XL Nightster, if you are interested in the heads let me know, cheers.

G'Day Slap, yeah stage 3 and dyno'd a couple of times now. Best I can get is 82 ft lbs & 92 hp with the current set up, need to make a few changes such as pipe and increase the cut off to 6800 rpm.......after Chrissy.

GT, what's your redline set to now? I reckon your setup would be capable of 100hp+ @ 6800rpm with that pipe.

Slap, it is set to cut out at the std 6500 rpm......I can get a code from Dynojet to increase it to 6800 rpm and have been advised by NRHS that I could get another 5 hp, might give it a crack. Just checked the dyno sheet and it is actually shutting off at around 6400 rpm. The pipe is a drag pipe (V&H 2-1 Comp Pipe, same as yours I think) good for top end screamin', but creates a torque dip around 3000 rpm.

I've since put some torque cones in with only minor results for the better while around town. I'm a bit limited with tuning expertise here but she rips along pretty well and still getting reasonable fuel figures.

Yeah my 2-1 has the same dip low down, better with the V&H quiet insert, was gonna try a lollipop too, may affect top end hp at the dyno though.

    I'm hoping for 100hp @ 6800 with mid 80's torque. Crossing fingers & toes. Just hoping there's nothing I've missed part-wise.

Sounds like you're on the same path except with the Hammer boys, you may need a seat with a high back or a sissy bar to stop sliding off the back of it, hope your build goes well. Make sure they gap your rings and assemble the pistons to the barrels for you.........sorry if we're hijacking ya thread here 666 !
