Me, I started out on mini bikes and even after I got my license my next few bikes were road/trail bikes.

For the next 25 years I had mostly road bikes but with the odd trail bike mixed in, at the moment I've got a KLR650 sitting in the shed as well as the Harley.

Rode dirt squirters for 10+ years in my younger days.

Great fun with a bunch of blokes, off in the bush for a few days at a time, and a great way to learn a lot about riding.

Also rode one to work for much of the same period, good for negotiating traffic, and riding over kerbs and gutters when the situation called for it (avoiding killer cars!).

Started on n XR 250 progress to WR 426 then 450. WR 250 recently. KTM 525 in the middle there.
The only bike i have kept is my XR 50 full trick out with big bore kit. Suspension etc etc. Built before the pit bikes craze started a few years back. Today its still going strong while the pit bikes are broken in the back of peoples garages.

Now that's a fair while back, started out learning on a beeza bantam before I got the real thing,,, a Greeves Hawkstone , leading link suspension and a 250 villiers engine. From there it was hondas, suzis and a yammy, SL350, XL350, TS400, TX400, TT500, then the black track bug bit me.

Gotta admit they kept a bloke fit keepin up with them, but 57 now so bones are too crisp.

Just a cruiser now with the odd urge for a blast.

Only ever had 3 dirt bikes but am fortunate to have lived close to Walhalla. For those that have not seen/ridden this area, it has to be some of the best fire trails/ handcut/ river crossings and killer hills you could imagine. It is Dirtbike Nirvana. And all within 20 mins of your base camp. We had a little circuit we used to ride every New Years before going out for the night. This loop took about 5 hours but included lunch, a swim, and a couple of post trip discussions at the three bush pubs on the way home. I really miss those trips, especially the boys weekends at the Woods Point Hotel. Broke my ankle 4 years ago so am a bit nervous about gettin off the bike in a hurry on some of the hills we used to attempt. Still got an old 83 TT250 with a monster nobby on the back.............hmmmmm maybe....

first ride eva was on a monkey bike when i was about 8 or 9. my old man always had bikes and bought me my first enduro a suzuki PE175. a 78 model i had that from 81 to 85, regod it and even rode it around when i broke my leg playing soccer. The old man took me up to mt Kembla race track and said here, learn how to ride. I'll never forgot that.
Then i had a XLX 250. used to ride that to work when i was an apprentice in BHP.
I bought a CR 250 off a mate and used it for club days at albatross in nowra back in 89. Man did that thing go! you could lift the front in all gears. Great fun around Menai tracks.
In 92 I sold two road bikes i restod and bought a XR 600r. Heavy machine with no electric leg. Was no fun loosing it up steep hills and trying to get it started again. Cum-a-gutsa plenty of times on that and busted some ribs and toes. Went to Oberon, Nowra, Nerriga, used to go on enduro days with the boys. I miss them days.
Then was mainly road bikes untill i got a quad when i moved to Newy in 04 some suzuki 400 thingy. Then came a yammy 700 raptor! Great fun around Stockton sand hills. Untill I wrote myself off and become a invalid and busted me pelvis! ouch. Took me a year to get over that and thats when I sold it and settled for a DR 650. Mainly used as a commuter to work every day and handy for the odd bush bash around here.
Sold that now i have a work ute and not using it anymore. It was very reliable and cheap to service and tyre.
So no more dirt/enduro bikes ATM, only the Ultra, the missisus scooter and the kids quad.

First ride on a bike was the neighbors Honda MR50. Hooked on bikes from that day on.

After that my first bike was a YZ80E followed by a YZ80H and then a YZ125K. Built a track on our property using friends earthwoving machinery (sh!t hit the fan on that one). Then ran out of money (dads) and go told to get a job you long haired bum. So I moved from the country to the city and attended uni to continue being a long haired bum and live off the parents and the system. LOL.

Love mx/dirt riding. If you can punt a mx bike at 10/10ths you can ride anything.

Scary/fun ride was on the neighbors Jawa 500 speedway bike, motor, frame, runs on methanol, one gear, no brakes. Bike just jumps.

That was over 30 years ago ridden road bikes ever since.

Rode more dirt bikes than I can remember - Motocross and enduro,Suzukis, Hondas aand Yamahas. Loved it but ran out of places to ride and was getting a bit old. The body would be sore for about a week after a two day enduro, and I would have done half the laps of most of the riders. Also great as my son was growing up to go racing motocross and enduros with him.  A few mates moved into the Harleys and convinced me to swap over. I still do prefer dirt bikes but if you can't ride other than enduros which will cost typically $100 to nominate, they are bit of a waste. I was fifty when I rode my last enduro a few years ago. The Fatboy is not as hard on the body.

Started riding a postie a friend sold to me for 100 bucks when i was 12. Lasted 6 months and it blew the piston after too much hard riding.

The old man graciously bought me a 1985 Yamaha IT 250 for 1000 bucks when i was 14. Rode alot on a few fire trails near home and a cousins farm.

Now regretting it these days - I sold the IT for 800 bucks to fund a purchase of an 03 KTM EXC 250 in 2004. I should have kept the IT. Would almost be a classic now. Went pretty hard and was a bunch of fun..

I sold the KTM When i finished my apprenticeship in 2008 and went to europe for a 6 week holiday. Pissed up the money from the bike... But loads of fun was had.

Gave up the bikes for a while and tried saving money as i was shafted around from 2 jobs within 6 months of each other. Both places closed down/sold off their work with no jobs following it. I was building farm machinery. The drought was hitting hard.

Now i've said fuck the dirt bikes and fuck the farm machinery! Got a job doing something totally different but still with the fitter trade.

Now i straddle a Harley. Should've bought a Harley from the start!! But i do itch for a cheap dirt squirter now and then.... But i do thank the Dirt for teaching me a thing or two.

I started on a scooter frame with a lawnmower engine and then got a deltek rock hopper with a victa 125 power house. The next bike was a gemini with fold down bars, yamaha 80, cr125, 2 bultaco persang's macio 400 mx where my race bikes. When I hit the road I had a yamaha dt 360, ducati 450 silver shotgun. I found a Norton commando mk2a 850 with a 1600 mile for a 1000 bucks when I was 16 year's old and my dirt racing days where over because I had to sell my beloved Macio 400 to buy the commando.
