So this would be good ?

Just seen it on ebay
Harley Davidson designed the shovelhead engine, designed and built all the tooling, rolled out the assembley procedures, trained the workforce and sold out to AMF.
AMF took control of Harley Davidson, designed and built the evolution engine, the softail frame, the belt drive and 5 speed gearbox
And AMF are shit?
The employees, union and political activists and not forgetting previous owners may have more to do with the bad name than AMF
AMF were an american engineering giant, how many parts on a new Harley are american made?
I`m not a biker so i probably don`t get it, i don`t mind spending hours on a lathe machining parts and bullshitting with the Honda guys or old pommy die hards, i just like bikes especially shovels, i like the challenge, 30 years as a fitter toolmaker i`m not too shabby in a machine shop knocking out shovel parts and like spending time with like minded shovel owners.
As for the pressed crank being superior to the bolted crank? the pressed cranks are being offered by aftermarket companies fully welded due to twisting, and the acceptable runout of the new cranks is not a tolerance its a disgrace.
If the new Harleys are so great why do people change the seat, handlebars, cams, exhausts, lights wheels, paint etc
American imports - "greys" - should be treated with suspicion, AMF or otherwise as far as I'm concerned.
I have an AMF FLH and whilst it is a 34 year old motorcycle and should be treated as such, it is still going strong and looks much better than the newer models (IMHO).
And like it or not, if it wasn't for AMF, Harley would have gone to the wall and very few of us would be riding them today. The AMF years were responsible for some iconic models - Superglide, Lowrider, Sturgis, Wideglide etc.
Horses for courses I reckon. An AMF HD - well sorted - should be a respected and admired VINTAGE motorcycle.
Cheers

Ride & respect all the Classics is my thinking - its how we got to here
I would love a early alternator electraglide as a bar hopper but my twin cam keeps plugging away with zero problems after 6 years of engine mods. The engine starts every time I hit the starter at any temp or altitude and go's hard with 100/100 on tap.
Nice bike Donster, those 70's tanks were awesome! Ride and respect!
