Advice on upgrading my fatboy lo 2011 with a 120R

Hello again all, I have had my brand new harley for 7 months now and I have put about 10000 kms on her. I have her tweaked her quiet a bit and wanted to get some advice (atm I have a stage 1 upgrade which is a heavy air breather, 2 into 1 large radius vance and hines pipes and a tune with a pro-tuner and Progressive Suspension) on upgrading my bike. Now I got a 2011 year Fatboy Lo (Brand new) and I was looking at getting the mechanic at Robbo's canberra to put in a Stage 4 kit (the cost of which I am told is around 7000) this specific upgrade includes more kit in it than the standard upgrade (according to the head mechanic a bloke called Pete) which is why its a bit more than other garages but the qouted price seems huge to me.

Been new to all this I am unsure of the pricing, what I should expect etc. But after doing some math on performance vs cost, the 120R Screaming Eagle engine costs 7500 and apparelty 10500 with all the etc bits you would need to install it in my Fatboy, just wanted to know if people had advice/opinions on this line of thinking as an extra 3000 dollars for the 120 isnt out of my price range. So to conlcude I am thinking of either a stag 4 kit OR the 120R screaming eagle engine for my bike. Also I am to understand a engineer would have to certify the bike, is that something I have to arrange or the dealership arranges where I get the work done?

Lastly (and alittle of a concern) I had my tires and rear brake (but not front break) replaced at 9500 kms, only recently and this seems a little early to me, I was wondering about tire pressure I keep my pressure according to what Harley Davidson Manual has told me which is 36 PSI front tire and 42 PSI rear tire. Is that what I should be doing? The concern I have (I am now checking my tire pressure regulary, once a week and have my own gauge and automated pump now) is when I got my bike back the tires seemd off (the new ones) and when I checked the pressure the pressure was very low 32 for the Front Tire and 35 for the Rear Tire. I have not had a chance to ask the dealer ship whats up (but will do on Monday) but is this a warning sign-(edit apparantly the air pressure gauge is faulty so the tires were low)? As I am thinking about a rather complicated and massive upgarde to my bike I was trying to work out where I should be going with it so in addition to the other questions does anyone have any opinions of harley mechanics around Canberra?

    Cheers all,

    Abhoth

I've heard from many sources that Pulford Race Engines in Canberra is the place to go for engine mod's. Here's the White Pages link with their contact details. I look forward to hearing their opinion on your build, as I'll be contacting them in the future when I can afford some engine mod's..

Hi all...The money you pump into stage 4 your engine would be better put towards a 120r crate motor.Have you thought about the S&S 124 crate engine??????

I have a 120r in my softail, but if I had more money I would have gone for the SS 124. Don't ge me wrong nothing wrong with a 120 good strong motor and at that price it's steal. If you have a extra few thousand dollars doing nothing go the S&S

Hi all...Abhoth,Its all about money. If you can afford a 120 or 124 it would be money better spent than on a stage 4 IMHO.I dunno about you,but i just wouldnt be happy with a stage 4 after very a short time.

Reliability wise,I think the 124 S&S would be the most reliable IMHO.

My position is i also want more power,Ive decided on a 120 or 124 over a stage 4.However i just cant get the money together quick enough,Im tempted to go stage 4.But i know i wont be happy after a while. So im going to put up with what i have and wait for a bigger engine.

The S&S 124 wont go into a twin cam Softail. Harley still has a patent on the balanced engine's the only option as far as that goes is Jim's racing engines or the 120R engine.

I had a Screamin Eagle stage 3 103 I loved it But I was never really happy with it . I know a guy that has a stage 4 in his fatboy and he's very happy with it. The choice is a personal thing But throwing money at something you are not fully happy with is fucked! Hold on save your money and then get what you really want, but if you have the power bug you'll never be happy. There's always something thats got a bit more power that what you have at the moment.
