Not sure if me and the missus are riding with illegal helmets, the grandkids got hold of our helmets a few weeks back and proceeded to remove the stickers (you know the Aus standard red small stickers) now we got two real nice helmets with no stickers, does this make them a no go ??????
I'd say so, can you glue the stickers back on or are they lost ??
Should have a label stitched inside as well I think?. I have an old eldorado that has a tag stitched inside as well as the sticker, just be a pain in the ass getting pulled over when they can't see the sticker.
Maybe you can contact the manufacturer or whoever and get the stickers replaced ?? Start with the dealer you bought the helmets off and see how you go.
I'm now trying to read the act off the office of road safety website................ pharkin hell................. will post up what I find.
When is a helmet illegal ? When it's still sitting on the shelf and you're riding down the streep in a baseball cap .........
No retailer or manufacturer will put a new sticker on....... if you've got the inside label and a half nice/cheesy atti' most times should be right.... have been told if the attitude's shitty they will look for it (in amongst anything else)
As I understand it yr lid just has to comply with Aus standards, the helmet manufacturer wont honour any warranty if the sticker is removed from the external, all lids should have another sticker or stiched tag internally, if both stickers and or tags are not present lid is non compliant, if the sticker is removed from the external you still have to prove its compliant, I cant find anywhere on the web that there is a penalty for not having the sticker on the external (could be wrong) so I'm not going to ditch my helmets. Will be putting on my best cheesy smile if I get pulled up about it
I'v been told that you have to have a sticker on the back even if it's got the other stuff inside. You can colour it in with a nicko pen as long as when they pull you over you can statch the nicko pen off and prove it. Why dont you ring up the transport department in your area, it would be a lot cheaper than finding out the other way...and i have known blokes that have been done for illegal lids.
