Anyway, next morning was the run down to Kal. Early start and breakfast on the road.   The weather was still hot and windy but the first 150km out to Liencster was the easiest of the whole trip. Another pie for breakfast . .  ;D   Stopped in a leonora and Menzies - Menzies for a fuel and a cool drink.   From there we stopped in to see an old mate who is caretaking a mothballed minesite. Lonely old job that one but he is making the most of it and finding the odd nugget  " border="0" /> Then through to Broadarrow for lunch. Served by a tidy barmaid who managed to keep the bar going whilst knocking out 8 burgers in short time - great work ! Then in to Kal to set up camp.   I Kal we were joined by Burt and Scooter. Burt had a GP appt on Friday following a shoulder reco. Given the all clear - him and scooter set off the 900kms or so from Margaret River to meet up with us. Long story short, making good time, Scooter started to suffer electrical problems in Corrigin and limped into Bruce Rock. All was lost and a trailer from Margaret River despatched. Burt left him to it and headed off solo. About an hour later, quite by accident, the problem was discovered (faulty battery lead that tested fine) rectified and Scooter too headed off to Kal solo. Great effort by them both ! Burt's camp set up :   Scooter arriving an hour or so later :   Settled in and partied into the night.   Overnight, some neighbours moved in and dropped the tone of the park a bit. Cheap Hussies  ;D (and before anyone asks - that's Burt's handlebars I was taking a photo of and I just got my "depth of field" a little wrong).   The next morning, we headed into a "mate of a mate's" workshop so Gerry could try to track the source of a primary "rattle". Suspecting a tensioner problem, we were all quite surprised to find the chain itself fucked after 20,000km.   Must be rare cos there are exactly Zero primary chains available in Australia to suit at this point in time. Bolt her back together, fresh oil and hope for the best. Johnno's mate also picked up a tidy new toy for his 50th (what a wife !) :   The next day we were headed for Esperance. Cold wet and windy as we left. We stopped to see Mulies brother in law at some roadworks just south of Widgiemooltha. Quick chat and as the traffic turned our way, we bolted out of the roadworks, only to see a cop car stuck in line waiting to come through in the other direction. 10 bikes all travelling "a little" over the posted 60kmh. He would have been spewing ! Chalk one up to us  ;D By Norseman it was cold, wet and unpleasant. A real chill had set in and it was chalk and cheese to the high 30's we had been having for the past 4 days or so. Salmon Gums was slightly better but with the first rains for some time, the roads were slippery and the bikes had collected a fair amount of red dirt and grime.   Thankfully, after a few more Km's the rain cleared and while the chill didn't, it was certainly more pleasant. Big roast in the Webber with lots of Veggies was the order of the day for tea. Mmmmm - Vegetables !.   Friday saw us packed up and ready to go bright and early, expecting bleak conditions. Our destination was Walpole however two of the boys had run out of rubber and booked in for tyres in Albany. We also arranged to meet Link at the Harley Shop at 2.00 to join us for the last night. Thankfully, the weather was not too bad (still windy but no rain). Pie for breakfast at Ravensthorpe.   Arrived in Albany to fairly warm conditions. Spent some time at Great Southern MC and they were fairly accommodating (although the boys did fling a bit of cash at them). As we were stopping for lunch in town, I jettisoned the wet weather gear before we headed in from the Harley shop. After lunch was a short hop 50km to Denmark then another 70 or so to Walpole. That leg turned to shit with all the boys getting split up and going different routes (who knew there were so many ways to go from Albany to Denmark)  :o. Consequently, not knowing if we were in front or behind, we stopped at a servo for a few minutes. That was a blessing in disguise as the last 5km in had rained - first for that leg of the trip ! I met up with a few crew riding old Dukes & Guzzi's that we had bumped into last year.   Anyway, sensing we were behind, not in front we headed out to Nornalup and the designated camp.   Once again, partied long and hard (some more than others  " border="0" /> )   All too quickly, we were on the last leg. In no hurry for it to end, Johnno and I did a little sightseeing.   Walpole for Breakfast (I rattled off an order for tomato sandwich on grainy bread, pepper but no salt when they said they had no fresh bread, another pie for breakfast !  " border="0" /> ).   Headed through Northcliffe for fuel   From there it was off towards pemberton, across Stuart Rd to Brockman H'way then down to Karridale and Margaret River. At that point the southerners dropped off along the route up through busselton, gelorup and Bunbury with the three from Perth heading straight through. It pissed down from Busso and by the time I hit Bunbury I was wet through. I chucked a lap up the main street of Bunbury, bought a lotto then dropped a note as I left  ;D One off the wood at the local before heading home to the girls (who were very understanding and gave me a big hug given that my last shower was some 3 days and 1600kms ago  :" border="0" />   All up - 8 nights, 9 days, 3200km, run out of fuel, blown headlight, loose footpeg, lost bolt from the lower bely guard and used about 500ml oil (? - halfway to the fill mark). Just got back . . .

I have just got back from a ride with a bunch of mates.

Set off from home Friday a week ago for a 7:00 rendezvous just outta Bunbury. From there through Australind to pick up another bloke then off out the highway to the big smoke. Great first leg - spotted some cops up the freeway however thankfully soon enough to ease off on the throttle and pass through without incident (although the sneaky fucker came up behind us with a helmet cam on !).  Veered off south of the city where we met up with another 5 blokes.

As I pulled up the kerb, the bars slipped a little in the risers. First sign of problems to come . . .

Anyway, after hooking out from there we were all over the shop like browns cows. Finally got most of the bikes into one place and headed out onto the freeway north. Next stop was Wanneroo Rd north of Quinns for fuel before Indian Ocean drive to Jurien for lunch. I was pretty happy cos I had made 250kms without hitting reserve tank (that will come back to haunt me too).

Fueled up, mornin smoko out of the way and a cold beer waiting we headed off. Not far down the track I got whacked by a Bee just on my left cheek. Fucker ! Anyway, headed off in windy but fine conditions and stopped in Jurien for lunch.

From Jurien we headed towards Geraldton for our first stop for the night, staying with my cousin in his back yard. This part of the trip was less enjoyable, headwind had picked up, it was hot and lotsa shit on the roads. The first sign of trouble with my bars also started to present with them continually slipping in the risers. What a pain in the arse. Mukie also took a hit by a bee ! Making pretty good time, we called in to Dongara for a cool ale. Bees : 1 ; Mukie : Nil -

After a couple, we set off and set up camp for the next two days.

Johnno was voted pres and presented with his shirt - pity he sole the "Fanta" bike from last year a couple of weeks back.

Settled in for a night of entertainment.

The next day was a quiet day doing bugger all so we took the opportunity to give the bikes a scrub up (I wasn't going to bother but with the amount of spray it was getting, I couldn't leave it as it was.

Then hit the pub for a $10 TBone and skimpy. I took the cousin's daughter for a ride. Over the years I have taken her to school, last year to work and this year to the pub. They grow up so fast . . . . .

After that, there was nothing to be done than to retire to the patio for more entertaining . . . . .

A good time was had by all. Can't thank Tony & Leslie enough - check out the menu for the two days we were there !!!

Sunday morning saw us pack up ready to head out through Mullewa towards Sandstone.

After a couple of beers Saturday night, what appeared to be a good Idea at the time was to take the riser caps off, wrap some electrical tape around the bars and then clamp them down again. By the time I got to Mullewa, that had proven to be probably the worst thing I could have done. In the hot, windy conditions, the electrical tape was in fact slippery and the bars were falling down under their own weight. What a shit 100kms or so that was ! Never mind, what's done can be undone and by the time I firmly bolted them up again, they gave me little trouble.

And the best bit was the next leg of the journey was relative bliss, comfortable and safe and sitting on a good pace (so much fun I took a Photo of the best view in town !)

and some others while I was at it

Our aim was Mt Magnet by lunch to watch Casey at Philip Island. That started to look a little dodgy when 40 kms from town the old girl shut dow - fuck ! Onto reserve. I was spewin cos I only had just over 200km on the clock and two days earlier got 250 without hitting reserve. Wasn't too concerned though as there were blokes behind me and we had only been talking the night before how on of the boys got 80km from reserve on his 99 Wide Glide. Sure enough, 15 km later the inevitable and I coasted to a stop, 20 km's or so from town.

Grump stopped to see I was OK - plenty of water and a mobile signal. I waved him off, and set in for a little rest.

Being a bit isolated, I pushed the bike in off the road and set up in the shade but out of sight. Kept an eye up the road for when someone (hopefully) came to my rescue.

Sure enough - 40 mins or so later Gerry rocked up with a three foot length of hose he had "found" in Mt Magnet. My hero !  ;D

Ironic really as he was the one who told me he got 80km on reserve.
So, we made it into Magnet, fuelled up and headed to the pub for lunch and to watch the GP.

From there was the last leg of the day - 150km's into Sandstone. Was a great ride - everyone enjoying the good roads and open spaces.

I was far from the front however was a way in front of a couple of the boys so when we rode through a cutaway I took the opportunity to stop and get some photos.

From there it was an uneventful cruise into Sandstone.

Gerry (who's birthday it happened to be) spotted an old car and saw it as a photo opportunity.

As it happened, it was on someone's property and what an alddin's cave that turned out to be.

After a while exploring, a clap of thunder announced an approaching storm.

We tucked the bikes away and settled in to watch natures fireworks at her finest

Thunder, Lightening, Wind and rain - might not have happened in the last 12 months and it was laid on for us - a desert storm ! Fucking brilliant. And I cant describe the freedom of being able to stand out the front of a pub, beer in hand (amongst other things) watching the storm without worrying about traffic, cops, neighbours etc. Sandstone has a lot going for it ! Drank heaps, had a nice pub roast and generally had a good night.
Swagged it on the pub verandah that night and awoke to this view at daybreak :

As the sun came up, I took another photo op in the first light of day.

Mukie is spewin cos he has been going to sandstone for years and this is the first time he has had his bike there and he didn't think of it  <img src=" border="0" />

Anyway, next morning was the run down to Kal. Early start and breakfast on the road.

(and before anyone asks - that's Burt's handlebars I was taking a photo of and I just got my "depth of field" a little wrong).

The next morning, we headed into a "mate of a mate's" workshop so Gerry could try to track the source of a primary "rattle".
