Can anyone tell me if its possible to remove the 2 tubes (holds bottom end of throttle/idle cable) in the pic and weld them below the plate. Reason being I need to get more cable length, this mod would do it.
I am thinking of hitting them with a punch, filing out the holes to make them large enough for the tubes to fit through the plate and welding them in place.
if you need more inner cable lenght just cut the outer cable back easy i've done it heaps you need a steady hand , or have the inners made longer
Hey DR thats what I have done with the other bike (FLHTC) but the softail cables are braided with the chrome formed ends on them. Are the formed ends hard to remove and easy to get back on? Thinking that adjusting the cable holder might be an easier fix?
I would have thought the cables will remain the same length regardless of the bracket configuration...
that bracket is for a stock CV carb ?, braided cables are a bit different to work with but if you do modification on the bracket make sure you have the right angles & throttle wheel clearance for clarence
Yes DR stock CV, I have ordered 2 sets of cables 1 braided set for the softail which I got working but there was no room for adjustment at the top of the cable, the other is an OEM set for the electraglide and they were too tight as well (so tight that the only way to fit them was to remove the cable holding bracket) and once again no adjustment available on the adjusters. I have peeled back some of the outer on the OEM ones and achieved the free cable length needed. The braided set is another problem as they cant be peeled back. Trying to source some new inner cables to sort it at the moment. In both cases the cables need approx 20mm extra to work
when i need a cable modification that i can not do myself i use the local insturment repair co he has a lot of inners & outers + fitting service i have never had 1 returned, he splayes & silver soliders the end's even heavy clutch cables, this fellow is the VDO repairs as well
