My budget is very constrained at the moment due to an impending interstate move, but that doesn't mean you can't still get things done.

I started with flipping the mirrors, and I've just bought brackets to relocate the indicators to the forks, and an Autometer bracket to relocate the speedo (I'd rather a fork-mounted bracket, but you get what you can when times are tight!). I need to chase up a new handlebar clamp as well, but they're pretty cheap.

It's not much at all in the great scheme of things, but it's still enough to start putting at least some sort of an individual stamp on my bike. Hopefully the move will come in a lot cheaper than budgeted, which would then free up a nice sum to get something decent done as well. In the meantime, I'm having fun doing the things I can, and you can't ask for much more than that, really.

So yeah, hooray for the small things!

I thought doing as much as possible yourself was the whole point? :-D

I picked a nice shiny new bar clamp from the dealer today, so that as soon as the Autometer speedo bracket arrives, I can install it without further delay. There'll be a colour mismatch with the nubs that pass for the stock risers in the interim, but I don't care about that. It gets the job done, it won't be permanent, and I'll get most of the money for it back by selling it on once I get the bars/risers that I'll be keeping. In the meantime, it's one step further...

I had a thought this afternoon: how do you think it would go putting on 5" (minimum) risers and then using the stock Iron bars inverted? They would look pretty shit the right way up on risers, but I sorta think that they could actually look pretty decent the other way round. What do you think? Not sure I'll get to checking it out myself, as I really want to get drag bars with integrated risers, but I thought I'd put the idea out there. If I do end up trying it out myself (assuming I can get the stock bars back from the dealer, who seems to have lost them somewhere in the store), I'll be sure to post pics.

Buying the bits I want and flicking those I have no need for on eBay has made my changes happen (except the big radius 2's about to go on). Drag bars for $20 and my old bars $25 - cha ching

only issue you'll have with flipping the bars is the dimple for the cables, you'll have to notch out the switch block to suit.

If the notches are symmetrical, then flipping them horizontally as well as vertically should put them back on the correct side. Hard to check without having them in my possession, but I wouldn't think it would be too much of an issue if my assumption is in fact correct.

not sure i get you, but the dimple in the bars will end up on top, but i don't think you'd be able to run the cables out of the switch block that way, necessitating cutting into the switch block to make a hole at the bottom for them to exit from??

I thought the dimples were on the rear face of the bars? Are they actually on the bottom? If so then yes, that would be an issue. Like I said, I don't actually have the stock bars to be able check.

The Autometer speedo relocation bracket turned up in the mail today. I probably won't have time to fit it until the weekend, but that's okay - something to look forward to! Still waiting on the front indicator fork brackets, but with any luck they'll get here by the weekend and I do everything at once.
