Carbi throttle/idle cable adjust

Just bought new cables for the bike and I am having a shit of a time getting them to operate smoothly. With this bike and the softail I have had to remove the throttle cable bracket in order to fit the cables. Is this normal? There is no slack in the cables at all and this is stopping the handle snapping back to the idle position. The only solution I can see is to trim back the steel sheathing to achieve some slack. Any ideas appreciated.

Will go back out and work on the clutch

PS dont tell me its to do with the throttle body...............its a carby!!

PPS or point me to the thread that discusses this, couldnt find it.

no you shouldnt have to take the braket off to change cables as cooky said you have adjustment near the throttle inline on the cable
(may have rubber boots over them ) a lock nut and bolt that lengthen or shorten the cable

Thats what has got me stuffed. Even on the softail I had maybe 2 turns of adjustment on the idle cable and nothing on the throttle cable It seems like there is not enough free length on the end ie; inner cable outside of the sheathing. Wondering if anyone knows the stock length of inner cable after the sheathing. I have 95mm after the spring on the idle cable and 130mm on the throttle.

I have fitted a 95 CV Carb on replacing the original Kehnin and have ordered new cables to suit 95 Electraglide but this should not effect anything. The throttle sleeve has the holder for the top end of the cables right next to each other, if they were further apart this would give me some movement at the adjusters.

Hey Cooky I ended up butchering an old set of cables slowly cutting more of the outer casing to get the right amount of free play. All looking good now, butterfly is opening up to flat and throttle is snapping back in all positions, just need to road test and if all good then I will cut my new set to match. Thanks for the words of wisdom.

Hey Burnzi, I adjusted mine a while ago, and got into more shit than a Werribee duck, I feel your pain mate, I kept at it and is all good now, mine started by simply re-directing the cables
