Does it have a curve (forward) in it? Might be able to hit it with a heat gun over a bit of pipe to put a "recurve" in it. If ya guna throw it ou ya got nothin to lose.

G`day fella`s , personally despite copping a few bee stings and rocks , i`d still rather the wind in my face !
My only experience with HD screens are that i only ever really used one properly once , for a 2 week long road trip to tassie & GOR from Sydney and it was good , actually it was better than good as it pissed down for almost half of the trip and i would use it for that purpose again for sure , but never for local day rides , though before the trip i put it on and took it for a test run up the hwy and was pretty disapointed , i noticed there was a shitload of turbulance behind the screen to the point where it was blowing my beard and road dust up my nose and in my eyes , i felt that the air was blasting up over the tank in that gap between it and the screen , sort of gave a bit of a helmet lifting head wobble effect the faster you went also !
I ended up buying for $100 the HD chrome aerofoils that run for about 15 inchs along either side of the FL fork legs , despite giving the frontend a bit of a blinged up alien blender look , it actually worked well as in it stopped about 90% of that weird and potentially dangerous backdraft problem and made it worth using on the trip otherwise i reckon i would have left it off .

Check out the Flare Screens , not sure how good they are but they`re wind tunnel tested and are said to work well , they look kooler than the HD OEM screens too .

have used a windvest for about 18 months, and found it good. It has the lip at the top which deflcts the wind over the top of my hemet, but I do not have to look through the perspex. Bough it via M and M in the US for $400. LAst big ride was 4,500 kms over 7 days, and very happy it was on as had a bit of wet weather on the ride.

Try bending the top out as mentioned
