i selected the best map i could find, could you guys let me know if i'm right, i went for dac358-01, the bike stalls when the revs drop to about 1200 rpm, does this mean i have the wrong map or does this one need adjusting ?

    cheers

If you haven't done any mods yet I would stay with the stock map...

OK lads...After much frustration and lottsa wasted time I went and bought another computer with a high speed USB in it...Done 3 runs and getting data everytime without the computer crashing...I also bought a second hand 9" touch screen  monitor that displays what's on your computer so I am going to mount that so I can see whats going on when I'm tuning...A few more runs and hopefully I'll look into the next phase and fine tuning...Hilly,I'll be in touch...

I bought it of the Harley Forum in the states second hand...What was happening to me was I was trying to V-tune and would put the computer in my saddle bag, head off for a v-tune run for 30-40 minutes and when I'd get back the computer would have blacked out or had heaps of error messages so the run was a waste of time...Out of about 15 runes I only got 2 good readings...I bought the monitor and mounted it on my fairing so I could see when the comp shat itself so I didn't waste time and found it was happening almost as soon as I got underway...

Now I have a new computer I will remount the monitor so I can see exactly what is happening when I am tuning and what areas I need to load up as I am doing it...Hopefully it will speed up the process...I am new to all this and it is taking me some time to to work it all out but I will get on top of it...

Here is a link to the monitor

Hey lads...Since I put air and pipes on my bike and have been trying to tune it I have noticed a noise in the motor that sounds like it is labouring all the time...It wasn't there before the mods...At first I thought something was loose but I have been over the bike and can't find anything so I am thinking it's maybe pinging...Is there any harm in going into the spark tables and retarding the whole lot a little at a time to see if this stops the noise without doing any damage??? Should the v-tunes be picking this up if it is pinging and is there anyway of looking at the v-tune data to see if it has in fact been pinging..

Or it could sound like tiny ball bearings bouncing around in your top end. When I read your post I thought you where describing a intake reversion noise but then it went to a pinging noise. Normally detonation happens around 3 to 4 thousand rpm and the engine will labor and it will start to ping until it pulls through those RPM's

Thanks for the reply's...It's more like a top end rattle/chatter...I actually thought something was loose or vibrating..I have only ever heard pinging in a car and it was a distinct ping so just thought I'd throw it out there and see what you fella's recon...Hilly,I managed to do a couple of runs today with a box around the monitor and it's much easier to get data when you can see what's going on...I'm going to do a few more next week and then thought I would start again from scratch with the original cal that you suggested and see which one is better...

It's only been in v-tune mode cause that's all iv'e been doing for the last month,I'll do a few more runs and then change it back to ride mode and see how it goes...The noise is there all the time when riding the bike..

No prob's Hilly...I have only ridden it to do tunes...I haven't been game to ride it too much until I get it tuned to the mods...If I hadn't of deleted my original map I would just put the stock air cleaner back on it and leave it at that...I'm away for a few days as of tomorrow but when I get back I'll get it sorted...

I was thinking of getting a TTS tuner but after reading all this bullshit one has to go through,,, I dont know, sounds like a lot of time tuning and getting fustrated.

It,s not that hard,it,s just that I'm an impatient fuck and want everything done yesterday...Another 1 or 2 runs and I should be good to go.

I am then going do drop in a different cal and start again to see which one is better...There is plenty of help on here and on the net.

I had thought about cutting my losses and getting an auto tuner but the reason I went with the TTS and am sticking with it is I want to learn to tune my bike myself and learning to use the tool is part of the process.

What's your build mate ? I was running a 54h in my original 103 build with a +4 timing kog that used to detonate (ping) around 3 to 4000 rpm. I done a CCP test and found 215 cold cranking pressure and I then pulled the kog backing the comp down to 185 ccp and no more ping. Interested to hear what comp and cam your running.

Strange your getting detonation on a stock stage 1 bike. Might be a shit load of carbon in your engine causing your issues.
