Gidday all ... was wondering if anyone knew if a 2007 or 2008 Wide Glide front end would fit on a Softail of same year .

I can hear the answers allready , why dont you just buy a WideGlide and be done with it ... well i like the CHUNKY look of the WideGlide front forks ... 49 mm as

opposed to the 41.3 mm Softail but i just as much like the rear end of the Softail , especilly with the bigger 200 rear wheel ... so thats the reason for my inquiry

as i wasnt sure if head stem sizes were the same or not or if there would be other problems that may come up if someone was to try it .

Yeah Daggs , thats a option but still like the Softail rear end look over the WideGlide ... just out of courisosity does a 200 fit straight into a WideGlide rear with out any mods .

not totally sure about the wide glide as I have a street bob.

My street bob needed a few mods but the 2006 and up wide glide may need less or none as it comes with the 180 tyre standard so its guard width may be wider than my street bob.

ahh I see you have an earlier model so unfortunately you would need major mods

Daggs , my avatar pic is my old ShovelHead sadly gone long ago , have been riding those other brands for some years now but am venturing back onto a Harley as i have allways felt i have some unfinished buisness with the American Icon ... i have been struggling with what to buy as i am in the fortunate postion of coming into some small amount of inheritence pretty soon and i am trying to nail down all my research .

The WideGlide question has come about for 2 reasons ... 1 being i really like the chunky look ... 2 being that i was going to get a set of those Fat Spoke / Max Spoke wheels from Walka at V.P.W. but unfortunitly they dont have DNA Mammoths any more and there Attitude wheels which are just as good only fit up to 2006 models as they have the 3/4 inch axle and 2007 changed to the 1 inch axle which then made me think of getting a after market front end and fitting the earlier axle wheels or maybe fit a WideGlide front end and get the best of both worlds .

Why not just buy a earlier model i hear you say , well there were a few inherint problems with the TwinCams upto 2006 which were mainly rectified on the Dynas in 2006 and then the softails and all other models from 2007 onwards .

Before i get shot down by all the 2006 and back Harley owners , these problems such as the timing chain issues and oil pump issues were quite fixable and didnt affect all bikes by any means but at the decent prices one can buy a late model Harley for these days i just figured i might as well get one that had most of the issues sorted allready leaving me with more money to play with so to speak .

Borisat , i have allways thought the same my self , why didnt HD just put the same front end on both the WideGlide and the Softail and for me the same goes for why did they change the rear fender on the WideGlide after 2008 ... so many questions , Lol .

Wimbo you and Cooky are right but one has to have a bit of technical know how for some of these types of jobs and while i dont mind giving something a go sadly for me i dont fall into the catorgory of being a great technician ... thanks all for your thoughts and keep them coming if you have any others .

Changing the bearings to 1" or 25mm ID (as both sizes are out there) is an easy enough job.
So if its just the axle size that stopping you from getting the attitude wheel that shouldn't be a problem

The steering head bearing used to be standard bearing that go on your car trailer wheels, they had the same part number and cheaper than from a HD dealer, unless they've changed them.

Digging up an old thread but how did you go Tim. Reason for asking is a mate wants to swap his '11 softail twigs that they call forks for the beefier Wide Glide triple trees and forks?

Alternative is to go with the Harley upside down forks/trees at around $2k fitted (ouch) or aftermarket also $$$$'s.

Dyna Wideglides dont fit straight on to a softail Frame , the ishue is the Front Stops. Dyna and Sportsters have a Block in the front of the Frame that the Tress hit against, Softails have the stops at the back of the Neck.

It's only the fork stops that are different, the neck shaft and bearings are the same, the dyna front end is also 1" shorter than the softail

Thanks Walka so that rules out the WG front end. I knew about the 1" shorter (perfect) for what he wants to achieve.

Now I see the new Breakout gets the 49mm WG front end but with black fork legs. Another option?

Hi guys ... and girls if you are out there in forum land ... just a little update ... for those who havent seen any of my other posts so far i ended up going with a 2008 Anniversary FXSTC , bog standard bar a set of blingy pegs and handgrips .

Have since changed the bars from mini apes to low wide westerns on 2" risers ... have just recently put on a set of Freedom Shorty`s { Friggin Beautiful and sound great } ... at the same time added a S&S Aircleaner and air fillter to make her breath better , the Air cleaner is the one that has the modern Tear Drop look ... also added some XIED cables that help enrichen the fuel mixture until i decide which tuner to go with .

Changed the oringinal Blingy Hand grips and pegs that are surpossedly off a Vrod ... all shiny metal which were fine but i just like the feel of rubber grips and pegs ... to some Kuryakan grips and pegs ... slotted on a Mustang solo seat with a Mustang pillion for those doubling duties and slipped on a detachable sissy bar to keep the better half happy for those rides together , plus other assorted shiny covers and what not .

Waiting on Good old Walka for a set of his Fat Spoke Wheels ... 21 x 3.5 front and 18 x 5.5 rear and change up the front brakes to a 13" disk and 6 spot calipar and that might be just about it for awhile... famous last words , Lol .

So as for the fat front end i will just have to do with the anorexis front legs for now and decide at a latter date about that change ... have got some great idears from you guys thogh so thanks for that ... really like the idear of changing triple trees to accept standard Dyna front forks ... at a 1" lower that will really give me that long low look i`m going for .

Untill next time guys and girls ... Tim .
