I have just fitted one of these slip-on coolers to my newly aquired CVO Springer Softail 110

Yesterday in Perth was warmish and the oil temp from the oil temp dipstick was 205 F while constant running

In traffic, slow moving on west coast highway , it went up to 215 F

My mate's 2011 Streetglide was at 225 F at that point ( stock factory oil cooler / radiator )

So again I'm well impressed with the effect for the money , around $50 Australian delivered to Perth WA

Has anyone fit these with a softail with abs? Thought I read a comment earlier that the abs unit got in the way

Just saw chrisie's post, see he couldn't fit with abs - ignore my dumb question! Will chase the manuf and see if they're looking at one to suit abs equipped bikes.  Had a look at my bike this morning, MY13 Slim, and there's only about 8mm clearence between the abs mount bolts and the existing oil filter.

My previously mentioned mate with the 2011 Streetglide , has just had a slip-on cooler delivered

He has fitted it to his bike , which also has the factory oil cooler /radiator and ABS as standard

On that bike he had to very slightly mod the slip on cooler collar ( grind a wee bit only !)

To clear a mounting lug of some description . You can't see the "grinding" when it's mounted on the filter

This Saturday , if it's dry , we'll do a side by side test with my CVO and compare the temp(s) again

I have just fitted one of these coolers to my recently acquired CVO Breakout which was running hot as hell compared to my 2008 CVO Springer

This cooler and Redline synthetic throughout and things are much "cooler" haha..

No oil temp guage on the Breakout but I can "feel" it's cooler instantly

I have also fitted one to a mate's hot rodded 1550 Deuce amd another mate's Dyna based trike

All in response to our recent hot spell

    Hi
I ordered one today, I think they must be running out, said "only one left". Bit dearer too.
Presumably, you would take a bit longer warming up before taking off, after all getting up to operating temp is just as important, yeah? Must get a temp gauge.
And,, during winter,, take it off?
That's one advantage off the thermostat in the radiator type coolers, spose.
    Duge
PS, it'll look good never the less.

Duge mate , are we deffo talking about the same thing ?

Polished and finned alloy 3/4 cylinder shaped article that simply pushes onto the oil filter that is already in place ?

I just start up , let it drop to an idle as I put my gloves on then it's off you go as normal

    $47 USD plus $4USD post ?

    Hi Retro

Aye thats it, my mistake didne see you were in merican money.  $ 57.65 Aussie money at my door.

I was meaning that cause you were saying that the cooler was so good at getting rid of heat, even when standing still, that it might take a while longer to get up to operating temperature.   I've always let my motors warm up, while others just get on and ride off with the choke on.   Different strokes I guess.   Might just be me.

Back in the day when oil coolers were a new thing, guys would put covers over their coolers in winter, thermostatic valves have made covers obsolete now.

Up here 10 to 12c is average mid day temp for 5 to 6 months. So maybe the oil might get a wee bit too cool in winter?   Just a thought.   An don't get caught out late at that time of year.   Lol.

Easy enough to put on or off no doubt, me, I like the look of it anyway.

    Cheers Duge

    Hi

Hay Retro, I was expecting you as a Scientist to give us a bit of feed back on my theory on opperating temps. Right or wrong, either way.

I'm still waiting for my to arrive, nine days an counting.

      Thanks Doug

By cooling the oil at the filter , the engine gets the oil at it's "coolest" before being returned to the oil tank on any softail ( or "sump" ) on a Dyna or dresser

All the 2007 and up bikes run hotter than 2006 and previous years due to tightened emissions regulations around the world.

A 20F drop in oil temp' for under $60 Aussie outlay is well worth the money

I think that even in " cool" conditions the cooler collar is a good thing. No harm leaving it there all year round. I do at any rate. Oil can sit 150F after running on a cooler day

I fitted the last of my "stock" of them to a mates recent Dyna Lehman Trike conversion just last Saturday , as he was feeling the engine heat more due to the trike body.

Perth's to have 32C Saturday , hottest September day for 30 years or some shit apparently , and we'll be out on a group ride as normal.

My oil temp dipstick will show 200F , that's still well acceptable.
