Gday people, just wondering has anyone used the GOPRO camera
on their bike or know anything about them ?
Im doing Sturgis next year from San Fran and want to take some great footage
along the way and something like that I may only do once in my life.
    cheers.

Benchmark by which all others are judged . My sailing friends use the waterproof models with spectacular results . Some real good vids from Go Pro on this site . One is titled riding in Adelaide hills , or similar .

Yep! I will play my hand now and say that I am an Authorised Go Pro reseller - but they are the ducks nuts.

There is a couple of options available to you, but I would recommend you only look at either the HD Hero or the HD Hero 2. Both are great cameras that take 1080P HD video. There is a big difference in price though. The HD2 retail at about $349. (I will do you better of course) but I have some HD1s going for $180.

Keep this in mind - and I am all for buying from OS. However, GoPro Aus have some way of telling where the cameras came from ( I think serial numbers or the like) and they will not warrant one from OS. I have too many sent back to me to know. :(

But yeah - man get one - and then get a bar mount and ride! The footage is awesome!!!

If want to know anything - just let me know bro!!

MICKLE - Bugger mate!  Not good.  :(

IOLIS - The HD is a new version of the camera, and has a different little LCD screen on it, has better resolution for for pics etc.

However, if you are going to strap in on your bike and use the footage online, then you are wasting your cash on the HD2.  Mainly because youtube will compress the crap out of it anyway!!!

If you are going to use it for broadcast quality stuff, then yeah, go the HD2.

They both come with the water proof housing etc, and both record in a number of formats including 1080p.  I actually record all of my stuff in 720p.  It saves disk space, and the quality is good enough for me.  :)

So here is a recent clip with the HD1.  It has been compressed to the crap by Vimeo but still looks great.  It was shot in 720p and you might notice a slight wavy effect. This is caused by the high-speed prop on the back of that bird.

Yep - I can get the mounts too.  :)

Shit thats a good video hey, can you get a lcd screen for the back? so you can take normal pics rather than take a camera everywhere? I have lost 2 so far :(

i have most of the gear mentioned, camera back screen etc I havent found any that are better there is one thats close (forget the name now look on youtube most the time they have it in all the gopro comparrisons)

What i like is the still options different quaility and long battery life.

What i dont like is the mics I believe the new ones fixed this by making a external port for a good quailty mic to plug into (forget weather you can do this on my one or not)

I would recomend them if you want to check them out go to youtube they are all over it.

Someone in another forum was running them down them due to it fall off his helemt but I believe he never let it cure for 24hrs be shooting from the mount, I have never had one come off on my rides (side of the helmet and in front of it (doing over the speed limit on a closed course)

The Sony Action Cam is a worthy contender here too. Better shape for helmet mounting, and has built in digital image stabilisation, very handy (especially for mounting on your bike or helmet). It can also hook up to your chosen smartphone via WiFi so you can frame up your shot easily. I should say I don't have either, but when I buy one, its probably going to be the Sony. Check it out for yourself and compare.

Yep - They have just released the GP3. A bit more expensive- 3 models to choose from, but still great cameras.

All of the HD Cameras are great!

My GoPro bounced down the road at 110k/hr. The mount broke. Second only outing. Lasted about 300km then jumped off. Not hit by anything. You will notice it says nothing about mounting direct to motor bikes. Smashed the waterproof case, LCD back and gouged the camera lens. She pucked! Not happy. I had it mounted to the engine guard bar. It appears it didn't like the excessive vibration. I did a seach on the net and found it isn't an isolated incident. I like the camera but the mount let it down. Was a quick $500+ down the drain!! (with all accessories I bought) Just a word of warning.......tether it to something!

Hell yeah!! Tethering is must if you are going to be doing 100kph!! Anything could hit the camera, or if the mount fails, at least you won't have to go back for your camera. :(

Sorry to hear mate. If you ever want a new one, I will look after you with the cost of a new one. I hate hearing when people get a raw deal. :(

The Sony does look good, I got an invite to the Aus'  launch a while back.

Need to see a real world comparison between the Gopro. The EGO looks pretty good as well.

    Hey Mongrel

When do you expect the GoPro Hero3s to come in stock? What will they cost?

Got a Hero 2 not too long ago and was about to buy a WiFi pack for $90 or whatever it is then saw the new model coming out which is smaller and comes with WiFi. I figure I might sell my Hero2 to my boss for use on his XC Cobra and buy a Hero3 for myself and not be too much out of pocket
