     So i changed over one of the standard clamps on my new detachable sideplates from harley and went to press the lock to test it out

    I stopped....and thunk a good one.... how the hell is the tool going to get behind there to unlock it??

    answer... it doesnt

    am i missing something?? it seems a simple enough operation...all the gear is from harley and is supposed to fit... do i need to bend the friggin sideplates to have it on the outside?

    let me know anyway please

    Are they around the wrong way ? Not inside/outside but left and right ?

    the detachables fit perfectly in the same possie as the lock type, the only problem is the access to the key hole for the lock

    i took the lock off and put the orig one back on, I dont want to risk locking it and having the pain in arse next time i want to remove it

    the right side plate is exactly the same shape as the left,, not sure what u mean, unless u mean on the outside (which is wrong)

    Yup! They look different. Try fitting the lock on th right ha d side inside of the plate. But turn i so the side touching the plate faces in. You should have a bit sticking out to fit ur thumb. The top photo looks much too flush. When you fit the key, it should slant backwards. I will try to photograph mine and show you. If i can figure out how.

    +1 Also, I just googled the images for harley detachable racks and there is heaps of photos. I think on yours, they stay on the inside but try repositioning them.
    IE take them off on flip it 180 around, so the open cut out part of the lock faces forwards towards the seat, as opposed to the open part facing backwards like you have it. Give it a go.

    tried it originally to face them the other way didnt seem to work either, but it was a while ago..maybe i had the DOH! moment then,,,id love the pic taff... (the only detachable plates ive seen on google images (with the locks in place) have the little cut out on them like on the softail plates

    Bugger hey. yeah looks like these are what you need but i know you need sporty ones. Whats the diff? go to a H-D shop and try them on for size. Tell them the problem your having with them.
