Anyone had an EPA test with Vance and Hines short shots with quiet baffles in, I'm off on Thur  for mine.

pends on the bike, if its got baffles in it should be ok tho....are you getting tested due to a report of loud pipes? is it safer to change to a standard pipe for the test so u pass? check the last post on this thread...EPA sucks balls

my bike is a Nightster. I have my doubts it will pass but for $40 I wanna see how far off it is. The letter i got from the EPA states that at 2850 rpm legal noise is 101 dB.If they don't pass then I'm gonna have to do the old switcharoo with some stock pipes, I think I can get some second hand ones for around $100 but thats not money well spent.

you could get them tested privately at a testing stating prior to the EPA test just ask the person u are booked with...then if they pass u know u are safe or need the others

If your in Victoria and you fail the EPA test, Isn't there a fine of $700 ? correct me if I'm wrong.

Put the stock-o's back on mate.

It won't pass mate. Even with the quiet baffles. It's still going to idle at around 97. Under load, it'll hit around 102. Well over the limit.

 Well I have been doing some reading about DV levels and it's a complete mine field!!

So.. here is what I have found so far by state...

 

NSW  ( A Little convoluted) 

 

For vehicles certified prior to ADR 83/00, Schedule 1 of the Regulation specifies the prescribed noise levels. For cars built before January 1983, the maximum noise level is 96 decibels and for newer cars the level is 90 decibels. For motorcycles built on or after 1 March 1984, and designed or manufactured for use on a road, the level is 94 decibels. The noise level for other motorcycles is 100 decibels.

For vehicles certified to ADR 83/00 and with compliance plate dates of 1 September 2011 or earlier, the prescribed noise level is the higher of either the level in Schedule 1 or the ADR 83/00 signature level plus 5 decibels. For vehicles with compliance plate dates after 1 September 2011, the prescribed noise level is the ADR 83/00 signature level plus 5 decibels.

I have heard they cancel your Rego too

first test=704 dollar fine... because they can...they only cancel rego if u dont get it fixed in a certain amount of time

Just a note on the smartphone noise test idea, I'm pretty sure the mic's in those things can't read noise level above about 90dB from memory, so its useless for measuring anything above that.

Does anyone know if we cop that $700 fine in NSW? I got a warning a few weeks back, but haven't gotten anything in the mail, so I'm hoping he was bluffing about sending something out to me.

if u didnt do the proper noise test with the microphone etc u cant get fined (as far as i am aware), they need the proof, u might get sent to get tested though

i didnt get done for exhaust but did for other things. I think they hoped i was stupid enough to not change my pipes also.

I also have short shots with... cough... quiet baffles... I love then BUT they are not quiet.

who would take their bike in to get tested with an exhaust like these.

Could be wrong but in SA if you get done for noise from rozzers or the noise cameras on Portrush road  or a noise complaint you are sent to the RTA for an inspection. $180 fee do a mini skid, quick check of all lights, roadworthy and finally a noise test.

Will not pass with any aftermarket pipes. Even stock pipes can be over but withim "allowable" limits. Fun part is trying to tune a cam to idle nice. AFAIK fail and you pay $180 for another inspection. Keep failing and your rego will eventually be cancelled.

NSW...if over at test no fine, go away and bring back for another test. Rinse and repeat till you pass. If you don't pass within a certain amount of time you get a defect notice, then your rego suspended. Got my letter yesterday....V&H 2 into 1. Changed back to stock. Probably put the V&H on ebay unless they do a quiet baffle for them....the c..ts see them, pull you over and write you up for a noise test.

Was watching that police show on vic coppers today on tele, a dude sped through a T intersection knocked down a tree, smashed a sign, and went through a fence into someones yard.. luckily no kids were playing and the bastard got a 300 dollar fine and 3 demerits... CUNTS at EPA can get FUCKED
