OK, I'm asking a question I already know the answer to. Strange thing to do, I hear you say.
It's about the Sportster 72. Firstly how much of an issue is the 8 litre tank? John, my local HD dealer (lovely bloke too) tells me it isn't an issue and if I ride with the HOGS on a Sunday they plan fuel stops to allow for Sporty riders.
Secondly, is there a review of the Sporty 72 anywhere that actually puts it through its paces?
Thirdly, are chrome spokes a pain in the arse?
Fourthly, I read the review here of the Sporty Custom and ther reviewer gave it a big wrap. Personally I don't like the big fat front tire and like the slim tyre on the 72 much more. How would the thinner front tyre affect handling?
Cheers guys
PS: I read that most parts are interchangeable on the Sporty's, so does that mean I could fit a bigger tank?
my first harley was a XLCH sportys are the best bikes ever made by HD but as soon as you get one you will want a big twin my boy just got a fat bob very forgiveing twin disc nice and low and is one of the few bikes made by HD in the last few years that look cool with out going to the chrome consalant P.S if you want to ride with like minded guys talk to the guys in ulesessys keep away from HOG or you might as well tattoo wanker on your forehead
handy review here
http://www.visordown.com/road-tests-first-rides/first-ride-harley-davidson-sportster-72/20038.html 2 gallon tank @ 50m to a gallon= around 160-170km before fill according to the report if i have my math right
do people actually just buy at the posted price without asking for cheaper?/
just pretend ur at a market and say hows about XX dollars? they can only say no...
I agree with the dyna idea. I wa tempted by the 1200 sporty custom when it cam out with the fat front 18 months ago. By the time i added a sissy bar and some louder pipes, it was pushing $18k. I saw a used FXD 04 that already had the basics'of what i needed for $16500. Maybe a used one is the answer. As for fuel, Im not sure what mileage sportys do, but i hit reserve at about 230kms of normal riding and I have a 18l tank.
At the end of the day, its not about who you ride with or what you ride. Its about individuality. I move on to my first Harley after 30 years of sports bikes. I dont regret one minute. Ive put 20k kms on it in since then.
The 72 does look very sweet!
