Raked Triples

    Gday Guys,

Im considering some raked triples in either 3 or 5 degrees. Leaning more to the 5 degrees. Anyway, ive been told I need 2 inch longer forks for this.

So if I lower the rear, do I still need longer tubes ? Im gonna go shotgun shocks in the back either way.

Second part of the idea is im tossing up on goin 23 inch front wheel. Firstly, will a 23x3.5 wheel fit between standard softail standard with trees ?

And with a 23 inch wheel lifting the front a touch, would that compensate for the need of longer fork tubes ?

Its all just an idea at the moment but any onfo from the guys in the know would be awesome.

Watch your rake and trail, upset that and it gets interesting

I put an Attitude front on my 2011 FXST with a 21" front wheel, it was 3 degrees in the trees & 2" over in the forks. The change in handling was very minimal, it turned in quicker in corners & at walking pace was slightly harder to keep in a straight line. Just to give you an idea of how this set-up is handling wise..

Looks like you'd get away with that, but don't take my word for it, I haven't done it, just looked into it once....

You might want to check out this link http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/advchoppercalc.html

Again, I have no idea how valid the info there is, but I think it'd be wise to take it into consideration...

Hmm so after doing some calculations with the supplied trail calc page above. If I were to use stock length forks with 3 degree raked triples and a 23 inch fron wheel, I should have a touch better trail than what Spero is currently running. (only by 5mm) adding 2 inch to the forks will take me out another 7mm to 116mm trail.... stock softail standard trail is 147mm while the wide glide is 132mm.

    Sorry... thinking out loud.

I have the HHI 4 Degree trees with 2 inch overs and love em. They look good, and it handles fine.

Thanks Mongrel. After playing around with that calculator for most of last night, Ive ordered a set of HHI 5 degree triples. Im going to start at standard length as the 23 inch front wheel im going to put on will give me more trail than the 2 inch longer forks would with standard 21 inch front wheel. Then, if Im not happy, I will go for a 2 inch longer set of forks, if it works out well on standard length I will probably go ahead and buy some flash sliders and the progressive monotube inserts as I had originally planned. Id prefer to keep it at standard length as ive ordered the shotgun rear end too so will be running it lowered. The 23 inch wheel with 5 degrees and 2 inch over tubes will put me a touch higher at neck to ground where as standard length puts me a touch lower in the front. Now ive just got to sort out the coin haha. I want to do a heartland ass end too but am tossing up between going to the 250 rear or fitting their EZ200 rear guard and seat over an 18x5.5 rear with a 200.

Only had the bike a few months. The more I buy the more the addiction grows.....

The bike above looks spot on.
What would changing the front to a 23 inch do to the ride quality.

    Cheers

Hey Greek great looking job you`ve done there ... am i right in thinking your`s is a 2003 model with that badge ... i have a 2008 softail and am real keen to put one of Attitude`s 18" by 5.5" fat spoke rear wheels in with a 21" by 3.5" front .

I think i will have to get a another front fender but wanting to know from you good people if there was going to be a drama fitting the 18" under the stock rear gard with the stock wheel being 17" by 6" and will a 200 tyre still fit or should i go back to a 190 or even 180 .

Cheers guys , any and all info will be much appreciated .

    2003 Anniversary Softail

Fat Spoke Wheels...........i had a look at those as well, however the Cleaning would have been a nightmare, the original wheels were bad enough FARK

Original Rim was 16x3.5 with 150 Tire, I'm now running a 18x5.5 Rim with a 200 Tire, few mods required to the Frame, like removal of the original Inner Support Fender Struts, 20mm Rear Pulley with a few Spacers to centre the Wheel in the frame.

The Rear Fender / Inner Supports and External Fender Struts are 2008, bolted straight on no drama what so ever.

    Trust this assists

Thanks Greek for the info ... i know what you mean about the cleaning but i`ve always been a spoke fan ... give me another reason to spend more money down the line when i get fed up with the detailing , hey it`s only money .

Geez that weather sounds bloody cold ... i`m presuming you dont get to ride much in China so enjoy your cool ride when you get back .

    Tim .
