My wifes XR1200 09 brake light stays on all the time. Only noticed it a couple of days ago and tried the adjustment on the foot brake linkage.....did not work. Cant see any electrical wiring for a switch...? How can I fix this?
Have ya checked the front brake switch ? common for them to get a bit sticky , worth a look.
Thanks, the front brake switch seems to work...it moves in and out ok.( light stays on) Not sure where the rear is fitted to check it out.
Follow the brake line from master cylinder to caliper, you will find a pressure type switch somewhere on the way.
Disconnect the wires from it and see if that turns the brake light off, if it does then you'll know that the switch is at fault.
Yeah rider, I did that and the lights were still on, so it might be the front switch?? I have opened up the switch block and sqirted some contact clean on it and no change. I also pulled all fuses out and put them back in.No joy!
Hmmm, well if it's not either of the brake switches playing up and supplying power to the light,,, something else must be.
My next step would be to pull the fuse for the tail light and see if that puts the stop light off. If so there's a good chance that the tail light and stop light wires are crushed together somewhere, another easy way to check, maybe turn the ign on to accessories so the tail light comes on without the ign being on. If the stop light is getting power from the tail light circuit it will also come on in that situation.
(just askin,,, has any other work been done to the bike lately ? )
Yeah rider, a few weeks ago I fitted a harness for a new trickle charger....maybe I did squash/bare some wires?? I'll check it out later this week.
Well, its fixed!!! I put in a new globe.... no crushed wires or any damage anywhere, so my wife donated the globe from her 09 Fatbob and ...it worked! Bought the new globe on Wednesday night at the stealers release of the "72" in Adelaide. Thanks for the tips.
