Seats - best aftermarket options?

I took the Iron for its first "decent" run after work today (after picking it up on Wednesday), and I think a new seat is well and truly at the top of the list of mods. The ride was only 30km, but my backside was starting to feel it even at that short distance!

I really like the solo spring saddle for looks, but how are they for comfort compared to the stock seat? I'm not that keen on the styling of the stock seat, so anything that just looks like more of the same isn't something I'd be interested in.

Otherwise, I'm very happy with the bike. Despite having forward controls fitted, I'm still thinking that I'd like to be able to stretch out a bit more (just a couple of inches or so would be nice), so I'll have to think about how that could be achieved as well. Maybe the right seat could help in that respect too?

give it time, the seat will break in a bit, as will your arse. It's not a roadking. The spring seats can be even more uncomfortable.

I have the HD spring solo saddle. Absolutely love it. Extremely comfortable. Can ride all day with it.

Some good options there. The Mustang Vintage also seems to be quite highly recommended. I like the look of the Le Pera seat, but think that for me it's probably down to the Mustang or the HD solo spring saddle, at least for now.

I've been reading that the biggest problem with the stock seat is actually the suspension, and that people who have had complaints about it found that it was much improved after installing progressive shocks (and in some cases also a superbrace for the forks).

I'm after the best combination of both style and comfort, so perhaps the suspension is the place to start, since I'll have to do it in the end anyway, and the stock suspension may actually increase discomfort depending on which seat option I go for. I think the front end needs the superbrace anyway, so that's another reason to do it in that order.

I'll be sure to post with an update on the outcomes when I eventually get it done.

Comfort and looks is all I need, Womble. Well that, and a good price to go with it! :-D

I think the Mustang is the way to go, from what I've read and all the recommendations it has received from others such as yourself. Hard to argue with a reputation like that.

I got my seat about two years ago it's the wide touring seat and paid about $500 for the solo and the detachable passenger seat so it's not a bad price to pay for comfort and style.

I went for the wide Touring seat for my wide touring arse and I'm happy and so is my butt.

Got it direct from mustang seats @ www.mustangseats.com.

    Hope this helps

Rather than a new seat, i went with a lambs wool seat cover (fitted) from crusin comfort in vic. great service and fantastic fit and made those longer rides easier on the butt

I took the spring solo off my Iron and put a Mustang Vintage Solo on. My back just couldn't deal with it anymore. The mustang is much more comfy although I would like to shift back about another 2 inches, maybe that's more to do with the size of the bike tho...

Got the Mustang through M &M Cycles in the states for $280 delivered which was the best I could find...
