Idle and Cams - Noise test

Well got the canary sticker Tuesday at a breatho from an attitude cop. First time I have had to deal with a smart ass cop, but you get that when it's six onto one. Bike had 10.5 pistons, 259 cam, Heavy Breather, BR 2:1.

Took the AC and pipes off but could not get the idle right. Solution -  raise the idle speed to 1200rpm and took 4% out of the VE tables from 0-7.3% up to 2500 rpms. End result -  it almost idles and sounds like a stocker.

Good enough top pass the inspection and noise test at Regency. Now I might look at some quiet baffles for the big radius. Seen the baffles in the noise test thread.

So if you get done for noise you may not have to change cams, saving $$$$'s. Just thought I would share.

    Hey Clubbie

That sux man! I just did the cams in my fatty and bought myself a DB meter. 108db at 2500rpm. FARK!!

So I have ordered SmartPartz baffles for the Big Radius. I should have them on next week week and will run another DB test and tell you what happens.

I don't plan on leaving them in though.  They can go in and out in a few minutes, so if I get pinged, then I will go and put them on for the test.  :)

Smart partz are the ones I'm looking at. Look forward to see the results.

Cost $16 for exhaust gaskets (which I didn't use) three hours with a mate to swap the standard parts, beer and my time to retune. Passed with 92db. Now I have the big radius exhaust apart I have a few ideas on mods to the baffle.

First restart had me shitting bricks as the idle went to shit. Sounded tough but not good for getting through the inspection.

Now that sounds friggen interesting fatbat. Thought about a valve/diverter/cutout setup set to open at say 3500rpms but put it in the too hard basket. Systems off the shelf seem overpriced, so I will just modify my baffle on BR2:1 for now.

Hopefully the baffles will be here early next week and I can get them in. I will run another DB test and report back to you guys.

PS - Anyone in the Canberra / Goulburn area that wants to test their bike, let me know and we can meet up with my noise tester. :)

    Cheers
