just thought I would post this up for comment
I repositioned my O2 bungs on this pipe before I fitted it, in the past my O2 sensors have always been very black and sooty now they are a tanned color. the pic of my pipe shows minimal discoloration which tells me that it has'nt been getting to hot
moving them closer to the head probly not the best idea!
then thats just my opinion lol
Interesting, I spose ya could attribute the black sooty sensors to it running rich,,,,which in turn could have been attributed to the sensor position/location affecting the quality of the tune.
Sort of , which came first, the chicken or the egg ?
So, it gets even more interesting, (for me) , H-D in all thier wisdom and experience fitted the small Bosch sensors to my 2012 SE 110 machine,,,
(SE Headers and mufflers)
and, as far back down the headers as they could, at 90 degrees to the flow, just before the crossover/expansion/two into one box.
That puts them about 24" back from the head.
Exactly Hilly, I'm with ya, different horses for different courses, and all those in between.
(Rambling on,
I still find it interesting that there are quite a few variations for component selection and set-up depending upon the build and expectations from the builder.
As seen around the traps, how many different builds are there that are quite different,,,,,,,but are aiming for, and end up at the same result ?,
and I guress that's because the builder wants it that way.
And then, as you know, the time and effort to create a custom tune to meet all those variations and fit the bill.
It's all part of the fun, challenge, and interest in getting the machine to perform the way one wants it to.
How the hell did we ever survive 40, 30, 20 years ago before the advent of the ECM and the O2 sensor ???
Pretty damn amazing stuff all this for a bloke that experienced the change from setting points with feeler gauges to hooking up a dwell meter when they first came out. And reckon I've still gota 3/8" dia dent in me right earhole from sticking plastic tubing in it to tune tripple SU's !
R.I.P Rod Styles Snr, the bloke that taught me everything I forgot, he'd turn in his grave if he saw what we did to his dyno, and who knows what he'd do if he saw todays technology.
His favorite quote back then was " Son, there's no substitute for cubes "
end ramble )
Could someone explain the difference of closed and open loop? Also is the reason for different exhaust for 2011 and 2012 Dyna Superglide the o2 sensor size and position ?
Do Harley run closed loop on any models as standard/stock ?
