Mid Vs Forward Controls

Mids imo are for shorter people or tall people who like pain. I don't find they make bikes easier to ride (not Harleys anyway) . I find it odd that because your seat mod, and your handlebar mod are making you uncomfortable your solution is to do a third unrelated mod and hope that fixes everything. What's the definition of insanity again?

Is that the HD saddle seat you're running? I've got the same on my 883 with forward controls and don't find myself sliding at all. I wouldn't change back to mids for anything. I love them forward. I'm almost 6ft, 105kgs.

Mine came with mids and I swapped to forward. Welcome to borrow my mids if you want to try them out. I think I still have all the parts haha. Might be missing a bolt or two, as I re-used the ones from the mids.

I came of jap sports bikes and can't go forwards, mids only for me! You actually do a lot of steering with your pegs, especially when pushing through the twistys, can't see how that works with forward controls.
I have a broomstick bar and I find it's a really comfortable position using the pillion pegs on the highway. I'd love to fit rearsets but they take away the pillion option....

Through the twistys, using the pillion pegs and hanging off - love it! Although I did race for a number of years so it feels natural for me......

you can steer with forwards too, but it's not a gentle weighting of the peg, more like an almighty stomp. I experimented with steering mu custom with my weight on the forwards only, needed a good shove to make it change direction. I', six foot, 87kg, and i've put mids on. Much better riding for me, although i left my forward pegs only on too, so I've got the option to stretch out on the highway. You can use your heel to brake or downshift easily enough too.

talk to the boys in the workshop of your local hd dealer / indy importer shop. Most likely they have a bucket full of em from people going the other way. I scored a complete near new set off an iron for $100. You'll have to take the front exhaust pipe off to do the swap, ( well, loosen dramatically so you can pull it out of the way ) Whole deal will take about 45min, and two to three beers. Do the right side first, the left is piss easy.

If you have long legs and the seat is lower than stock you might find your hips get painful for a few days until your muscles get used to the position. My 07 came with forwards, but I while I like floorboards I don't like peg forward controls. I put mids on mine ($30 off local Gumtree listing) and prefer the position and better control they give. The roads are very twisty around here and I didn't feel comfortable thrashing the bike through them with forwards. A set of highway pegs on the forward control mounts would give you the best of both worlds as you are more likely to prefer the mids around town (ie, where the controls are) but be able to stretch your legs out on the highway. The mids are in about the same position as the pegs on a Norton Commando, but the seat is lower and the angle of your thighs to your body is different. I have long legs, rode Brit twins and similar for years and am used to riding standards or slight rearsets like the VFR, Bandit and so on, so they are more natural for me. If you are used to forwards, one thing to watch out for is the placement of the mid pegs when you put your foot down at lights as they are very wide and quite easy to catch your pants or boots on. They guy I bought the bike off was in his mid 60's and put the forwards on as he found the mids were killing his hips as mentioned above. I found the same thing when I put the mids back on, but got used to them pretty quickly. By the way, if the leather seat is new, wipe it over with a damp cloth before you ride it for a week or two and that will stop the slipping. Saddle soap or similar leather treatments work better, but you will end up with dye marks on your pants. Leather seats are very slippery with nylon/cordura riding pants.

My 08 Nightster came with mids and I found them a bit too far back (ie. behind my butt), so installed forwards. What a mistake! Because my legs are very short, instead of my knees being like this (^) on mids, they wanted to bend backwards like this (v) on forwards and it was very painful. (The points of the ^ and v being the knees). So I returned to mids. Actually, I would like my footpegs to be located roughly between the mid and forward positions but I don't know if such an arrangement is possible.

yeah i did last year, felt cramped for about a day or so. After that was heaps better, so much better for lane splitting and standing up if you need too.

leave the front brackets and footpegs on, so you can stretch out on the highway. You can brake and change down with your heels in an emergency.
