as it states in this paragraph, i dont see the problem with it. its the idiots that make it look bad.
One initiative currently under consideration in Victoria is a trial of legalised filtering -- that is, riding between stationery or very slow-moving lines of traffic," Mr Lennard said in a speech to MPs at a Canberra breakfast.

Will filter if traffic is stopped sometimes but mostly won't, too many car drivers who change lanes without any warning. In peak hour the other day going across the westgate and this guy on GSX was lane splitting at high speed, was thinking to myself hell ain't full yet.

I'm all for it, who likes being stuck in traffic at any time? Great way of getting to where you're going quicker. Occasionally I will lane split, but still with caution as you don't always know what motorists will do ahead of you.

Was in the City the other day, three Police bikes rode pass me whilst I was stationary.
I can't see a problem lane splitting if cars are stationary, safest place to be is up the front.........

Filtering was what cost me my last 2 points on my licence. It was at a red light and all traffic was stationary, the size of the gap I rode up was big enough for a semi trailer. Copper sitting oppisite at the lights wasn't happy with this. Someone told me the fine for lane splitting is close to $1K now? Does that sound right?

For QLD its a grey area, sometimes they get you for undertaking or crossing a solid line etc. I'v been giving 4 warnings and 1 fine so far, Last time I got fined for about $80 with no point loss I think it was (usually they just give you a warning). I still lane split most days when its busy, I actually think its safer to lane split sometimes then sit in traffic waiting to be rear ended by some retard texting.

Sometimes they wait for bikes to come down the left side and book you, just comment on how much traffic they are causing from doing so and they usually give you a warning instead of a fine (pretty sure its illegal for them to directly create traffic).

I think if you do it safely they don't usually have a problem.

Its not relevant to me out here in the sticks, but id be doing it regardless of the law in slow/stationary city traffic. From what i can see most accidents are someone being rear ended at the lights, fuck that on a bike!

I have been split lane or filtering or what ever you want to call it, for 50 years in three states & have never been booked once, Although I have been booked for every other traffic violation know to man & then some! While I still do it today, as well as ride up the outside emergency breakdown lanes on motorways as opposed to filtering at stopped & backed up traffic. But I never Filter with moving traffic (Well not lately) as it's too unpredictable & dangerous especially with drivers having a conversation on their Mobil Phones! Just my opinion!
