Hi guys , i know i have read it here somewhere but have not been able to find it again ... is it correct that there is a different numbering system on imports compliance

plates ... something like an import has the number 5 followed by HD and then numerous other numbers and letters and the Aussie dealer delivered bike has the

Number 1 then HD and so on or vice versa  ... and has the Import have a different coloured sticker or something on the frame rail ... apart from these things is there

any difference to the actual Frame number or Engine number and apart from the sticker and different compliance numbers is there any other way to spot an Import

Thanks guys for any info ... house is finnaly on the market and first offer in , so fingers crossed wont be long now ... it`s not easy being patient when ya get the

    Harley bug , Lol .

    Tim .

5HDI are the Australian supplied bikes ( stands for HDInternational )

1HD are the American "domestic" supplied bikes. THEY are the "grey imports" These have the obvious pinky/purple frame sticker

Indicators are different, some colours are different , Some models have different exhaust setups.

Aussie bikes all have catalytic converters , other than California some yank bikes don't have them.

1HD and pink frame sticker are the way to go to differentiate them !

    Cool info!

Out of interest, got my FXSTS new in '94 at the local dealer, but my VIN starts with 1, meaning that it was meant for the US domestic market?! Guess that it's a bit late for that to be a problem any more (if it ever was)?

And the seventh digit is an L, which doesn't meet the carbureted (98HP) or injected indicator shown above. Do you think this would be referring to the carbureted 1340cc Evo (69 HP)?
