For those of you in Qld that may be thinking of getting solo reg for your bike, As you need a mod plate, most mod platers insist the LK7, (solo plate) must be drilled and riveted on. This is absolute bullshit. They say that cause there too lazy to read the legislation and keep up with the mod plate rules even though there licenced to inspect and install mod plate.

Just went with friend to solo mod his bike and the mod plate bloke said it must be drilled and riveted.

Thats when i got the shits and red the legislation to him. So to all LK7 licenced mod platers out there. (QLD only)

The law states that an LK7 mod plate may be glued on or screwed on or riveted. The law excepts any of those methodes. The regulations DO FUCKEN NOT give a preferance of one over the other. The mod plate has two holes for screwing or riveting but thats only if thats what you want done,

This mod fellow wouldnt budge nor would check the regs for himself to at least cover his arse. Went elsewhere and found one who was clued up and he asked what preferance to install plate. Mate said glue. He said, no worries and did the job.

And while im here. If your bike is already regoed in your name, you do not require a roadworthy for a LK7 solo mod plate. Even though a few had tried that on me in the past. You take the certificate to rego office and changes made on there system. There is no rego office cost to do this. You get a refund for the difference in dual to solo rego on remaining balance. You also get a ctp refund on proprtional balance. But you have to go to the ctp office to change details and claim the balance. If you have the bulk of 12 moths dual rego at time of mod, well worth the refund. (your next 4 or 5 oil changes).

So, dont require drilled frame,(unless you want)

Dont require roadworthy unless selling bike.

If the mod platers wont budge, Go elsewhere, They dont deserve your buisness.

Dont pay more than 100 bucks for plate.

Every time ive gone through the solo process, i get fucked around and fucked around, even though the regs are clear. As professeor Julius Sumner something or rather once said, WHY IS THIS SO

    thanks mate, good info there
when i got mine done, he came to my place, cost me about $60 from memory, told me to affix it in a visible place on the frame (no mention of how),
never knew about the third party refund, bit late now though, been modded for about 3 years now, half the rego cost every year is a bonus

     More info.

If your on a dissability support pension, in QLD, the rego regs say that you can have concessional rego on a car and boat, or on a motorcycle and boat, Just cant have it on a car and motorcycle. I recently sold my Hilux and am in no hurry to get another vechial. So as my bike is solo moded, i transferred concession to bike. My total rego and ctp for 12 months is $172. As i was only using my hilux to go to rainbow a couple times a year, I now hire one on those two times a year so dont have to worry about rust, costs of running 4 wd, ect and as i was only using it to drive around town 99% of time, like most 4wdrives. I am still almost shocked at how much money the hilux was costing me now that im not putting $110 of fuel in it a week. Servicing, and all the other costs.

Its taken me little time to spend $1800 on bike,( new bags, conversion from pegs to footboards, all chrome brackets as well, ect ect)

I cant change the fact that i had a certain injury 18 months ago but im quickly learning how to save significant amounts of money just by questioning and sqeezing answers out of officialdom.

     To Will67

go into any Qld rego office that does transport inspections. Go into the transport inspections office and insist

that they read the regs out to you, They will. They did not give me their copy but read them out for me of which i took notes.

And got two bikes mod plates glued on by moders, so beats drilling the frame tubes.

As to the bike concession, any counter staff will tell you this and do the concession for you, you only need your licence and concession card.
