Took a Road King for a spin!!

So I rode over to Sys at Cambelltown on Saturday morning and lo and behold, they had a demo day for the 2013 models.

I signed up to ride the beautiful machine that is the Road King!! I waited in anticipation for 10.00, and then they called us up.

First impressions, stunning looking machine, well built and the fit and finish is exceptional!

I sat on the bike, she's a lot taller than my Deluxe, and the seat WOW, very comfortable. So we take off...I follow 15 other novices..

I redlined it twice (the electronic cutout works well), as I could'nt hear the damn thing. So quiet!!! Goes very well power and torque wise.

Handled really well for a big bike, inspired confidence as I threw it around. Suspension just soaked up the bumps of the Hume Hwy.

Brakes were fantastic, very responsive and the ABS worked well.

Now for the negatives (theres only two). The damn shaking at idle. What the hell is that about?? I pulled up at a red light and the whole bike shakes more than a paint mixer. It was very different to the smooth 88B engine in the Deluxe.

Secondly the wind buffeting due to the shield. I know windshields are subjective, but it shook my head around a lot from 80k's upwards. At 120k's I struggled to see...

Overall, I was a little disappointed. I wanted to love this bike, as I'm thinking about updating in a couple of years.

I think I'll do a top end on the Lux, and keep her for a few more years..

Yeah real funny!! Anyway, I thought a tourer is supposed to be smooth...Wonder if Scar or others can chime in and give me an educated response..

OK good response!!!!!! I'm very tempted as it was amazingly comfy, and I reckon you could ride for hours and hours without any issues.
The power delivery once she was moving was smoooth, just needed noise..
Is $24K a good price for a 2009 model with all the goodies including aftermarket suspension?

They retail for $31500 new and then add your goodies so it depnds on what goodies it has. It seems $24k is a fair dealers price but you can bet they bought it or traded it for about $20k. Offer them 22k and use your best poker face, or ask for some pipes, st 1 air filter and a pro tuner for the $24k.  See how you go.
