Cleaning the bike today, noticed the fuel guage (left hand side of FXDB tank) is now free wheeling. Screwed it in like a petrol cap but it's still somewhat loose in the socket.

Normal or a sign not to clean my bike?

Oh, and I just found my first stone chip in my tank.

Careful not to screw it too much UG,,,,,,, the wires attached to the end of it might twist.

I'm of the beleif that the fuel guage is just a push-in job. Mine has loosened after a coupla years but causes no probs,,, got a live to ride fuel cap emblem stuck over it anyways,,, looks better than a fuel guage that reads wrong.

You would have thought HD would have made them with a small tab to prevent rotation, then you could place behind them a soft gasket/washer preventing them getting loose in the housing......

When will these engineers use some Common Sense in their designs?

The more you play with it, the worse it's going to get...don't ask how I know

Replace both it and your refill with flush mounted one's. Looks heaps better.

Sorry to hear about your stone chip mate, I can remember getting my first... it's all down hill now

    2 cent solution

use a black rubber band discreetly under the guage .. will solve the vibating / movement and potential for water getting in
