Hi, just fitted an new Arlen Ness Stage 1 Air Cleaner kit to the FLSTC tonight.

Bike already had slipon Screaming Eagles fitted but is otherwise standard.

    Questions:

    1)  What to do with the O2 sensor wires and harness disconneted from the stock unit ?  At this time I have just zip tied it behing the new unit.

    2) The bike starts and runs ok, however I have read conflicting reports regarding the need to remap (or not) or buy and fit an O2 / fuel tuning unit ?

    Advice would be appreciated.

How old is the bike ? Only 2007 and up have O2 sensors and "active air" valves

Where in Australia are you ?

The O2 sensors do not go to the back of the air filter, only the wires for the "active air" valve.

Your bike will run better with a tuner .

Bike is 2009, ive owned it since new and its done very little work.

    Im in newcastle.

Gotya, the active air valve wires are what I have diconnected.

As such, perhaps I may get away with a dyno without the need for an aftermarket tuner ?

Any "Dyno" work will still require a tuner to make any kind of change.

In my experience, you are better to use a tuner that resets the stock ECM or "brain"

At 2009 you have the choice of TTS Mastertune or the Harley SEPST tuner

I prefer working with the TTS system myself, mostly because I'm more familiar with it.

Having said all that , a mate of mine bought a newish 2010 103 cube Ultra in Florida in March 2011 when we were at Daytona bikeweek in Florida and the seller , Klockwerks custom works , told him that air filter and muffler changes would be fine without a tuner and he rode 10,000 miles, ( 16,000 K's) around the states then shipped the bike back to South Australia then rode it across the Nullarbor to Perth.

Bike ran fine for him all that way with no dramas, and THEN I TTS tuned it here in Perth WA for 255 cams as well and it goes well respectable now, really quite grunty for a big bus !!

Thanks, im just starting to learn how to setup my bikes without dealer expense, so I appreciate your help.

Interesting story about the bike your mate picked up in the states which obviously ran ok without the tuners.

The guy I spoke with at MCAS in Auburn today told me he hadnt done anything other than fit the stage 1 to his dyna and it was running fine too.
