Hi all.......hope someone can help me out here. I just traded my Ultra for this nice 2010 Superglide, and thought I'd fit some higher bars ( StreetBob).....new cables of course, and a couple of inches added to the wiring on the righthand side....had to jack up the tank slightly ( 2 inches) to get the throttle cables into place.....everything done, tank back into place......ignition on and hit the starter.........turns over really well, but won't Fire.  When I turn on ignition, I noticed I haven't got the ' Engine check light ' happening on the speedo, and obviously no 4 second powering up sound happening either.  Checked the ignition fuse...OK, checked all the fuses...OK.  Maybe it's that System Relay ?  I'm a novice at this. Maybe I touched something I shouldn't have...ie. one of those wires I extended down the right side handlebar.......Any Ideas ???

Take to harley dealer and get them to do a diagnostic on it.

Mate had a bike with the same issue after running wires through handle bars we fucked around with it for a week tank on tank off tank on tank off still no good

took to the stealer rang back next day and said it was all fixed ready to go

I am just saying in the long run wish we took it to them straight up

Def check your electrics, could be the regulator. Recheck all your connections again. Get a service manual, its probably the best investment you can buy it will have other troubleshooting techniques for you.

If you still have no luck, give hdforums.com a shot as wel, there are lots know;edgable guys there as well.

Wish I could be more help buddy. One more thing when I do work like that I always disconnect the battery on mine, the -ve side and tape the connectors, you never know what can happen

If you are not getting the startup sound it could very well be the Run/Kill switch. I can't remember if it will kick over with the witch off or not?? Maybe?

I do know that when you throw the run switch to run, the fuel pump will run.

definately go back and check all your wireing extension work, colour to colour, connectors and insulation.
Then if no go you have little choice to take it to a shop on the back of a ute unfortunately.

Pull out your plugs, & see if there is any spark happening when you crank it over!

Pinched wire in the right hand control stop/run switch but double check both. Multi meters are cheap as shit and work well checking for shorts in the wiring.

Thanks fellas for the suggestions so far.......you have given me a list of ' must-do's ' for when I get back home on sunday.

Hogbag......the idea of a pinched wire in the righthand switch block has a lot of merit......it's been on and off a fair few times in the last week.

Anyway boys, I will re-trace my steps through the wiring and see what happens......I'll report back what happens, and throw up a pic of these new handlebars

    cheers      Jim

Chappo, my guess is ya got an open circuit in the kill switch wiring, prolly where ya made one of the joins to extend the wires has come undone when ya re-fitted the switch assembley or pulled the wires to re-assemble.

As others have stated, could also be a pinched wire on that right side.

Yeah.......will check it out rider........but .....thinking out loud here, if it was a problem with that kill switch wire, the starter wouldn't spin at all...it would be dead. The starter turns over like hell, and eventually runs the battery down.

Maybe it's a coincidence, and there is another problem.......that litle orange light in the speedo ( engine check light ) is not lighting up, and I didn't think that was connected to the righthand switch block.......just a thought

    drivin' me nuts.

If you pull the plugs, there won't be any spark.needs to be at least 80 psi in the cylinders.SO READ YA FACTORY MANUAL.

Fair dinkum? What in the fuck have I brought? Talk about over engineered, maybe I should go back to an old shovelhead, at least it has mechanics that I understang! ... Fuck ME!~

How about leaving the spark plugs in and hook up your spark plug leads to a spare spark plugs, then test it?

AT Last.....Got it going.......' rider '...you were spot on mate.....re-traced the footsteps, and was totally disgusted with the shit-house wiring job I'd done...must have been pissed or something....those bullet joiners were thrown away, and the old soldering iron was used this time. I stuck the main fuse back in to check everything before I taped up...punched the starter button, and the S&S slip-ons were singin' before the button hit the bottom.

Thanks heaps fellas for the suggestions....just got to wheel it out of the shed now, and wash all those greasy hand-prints off it.........Jim.
