    Hi,

This is my first post so here goes.  Brought a Soft tail Harley with a Custom Paint job nearly 2 years ago and have had nothing but dramas.  On my 3rd paint set and yet again RUST is coming through the paint.

The design I have is like Aluminum swirls with Skull design.  Harley are well aware this is occuring hence replacing the set (guards/tank) twice already.  The second time it was replaced was informed they are completing the custom paint job from scratch as the design is no longer available which should stop the rust occurring.  Well it hasn't.  Been offered to go with another paint set all together, but the design of the bike is all around the theme of skull and why should I.  I brought the bike in good faith , brand new from a dealer so I want what I brought.  Harley still do this type of Aluminum design in their Core series, so surely they wouldn't have this available if they know rust does occur.  Not sure where to go now.  The dealer has been great, but we want action from Harley directly.  Spent over $60k on this bike.  All I wanted was a Harley and Harley need to step up take responsibility for what has happened and dam well fix it....  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

eventually they will say enough and stop giving you fresh sets of tins ...... i'd take what ever they offer and stop whinging. gives you a chance to spend some money re-customising ......

Man you guys are harsh!! LOL!!

If the rust is coming through from underneath, then there is a problem with the prep - and it's a fault!! '

The OP is not suggesting that it's rusting from normal wear.

Poor bastard!! Keep at em mate!!

Thanks for your replies.  To the mongrol you are correct the rust is from the prep stage of production.  Most likely they are not waiting long enough for the prep stage to dry.  Who knows!!!!

And to the one who suggest I stop winging, you would not put up with it if you had a new Harley and your pride and joy was rusting from an error on Harley's behalf.  I bet you would fight it till it was rectified.  And that is what we are doing.  Harley have to stand up and take responsibility.  Will keep you guys updated.

Over $60k, Which Softail did you buy mate, if you don't mind me asking?

My 09 FXSTB has the same drama with the spokes. I've given up trying to keep them shiny and have grown used to the rusty bronze look. Although, the chrome peeling off the hub is an eye sore. Change your brake pads to Lyndal if you want to reduce the brake dust and preserve your rims a bit longer.
