what issue would you face with converting a 2008 dyna fxd to a 200 rear tyre, as in the drive belt issues?? and brake caliper issues??? a mate of mine is thinking of doing a conversion
One of the main issues with putting on a 200 tyre is the possibility of the rear indicator wiring getting rubbed by the tyre.
I relocated my indicators for this and other reasons.
I also modified the captive nut set up under the guard which the guard bolts screw into so that there is no bolt thread protruding for the tyre to rub against.
The job can be very straight forward or can involve new spacers being machined and even the calliper housing (the spacer secftion of it where the axle passes through) might need machining also. Mine did. This was due to the offset of my
new wheel.
I'm talking about the offset of the hub centre to the rim centre. That can vary from wheel to wheel.
My standard wheel wasn't even centred properly between the swingarm and also therefore the guard. it wass too far one way.
So what I did was to fit the new wheel befor the tyre was mounted to it and take some measurements from either side of the rim out to the swingarm. This will tell you what you need to do in the way of spacers.
Hopefully it will be centre and nothing will need to be done.
I also spaced my pulley over slightly to give the belt a bit more clearance.
My first 200 was an Avon which measured (from memory) about 195mm at its widest point when mounted on my 5.500" rim.
I am now running the Metz 200 and it measures the full 200mm on the same rim.
Thats all I can think of at the moment, have a look here through my write up too....
