    103, 6 speed
is the clutch ramp fully contained with in the housing?
    and
is there any thing protuding from the transmission?
I only have 1" clear between housing and exhaust. I am trying to work out if I remove the bolts how far away from the gear box do I need to get the housing before everything is clear.
plenty of room to slide it up or down to then remove the cable if I don't have to first move it out more than 1"

It is easier to drop the pipes in the end.. You will loose a bit of oil when you remove the cover regardless if you drain the transmission. Use some alfoil to cover the lower frame tube and to make a funnel to direct the oil to a container under the bike. Also do this on the side stand that way most of the trnas fluid will be siiting on the Left of the case. Once you remove the cover, there will be a rod protruding against the ramp plate, Then you have to get the cover away from the bike to remove the cable. You will need a big set of internal C Clip pliers, it is easier to have the cover on the floor protected by a cloth as the c clip is big and takes a bit to get off. The you have to unscrew the cable to remove and replace.. Take the pipes of, no need to replace your gaskets if they are in good nick, and in the end they are cheap and easy to replace.

    Thank you all.
Yes I know there will be a chance of oil loss. I will drain it the night before and leave it on the side stand. That way maybe I wont loose any if I am real lucky.

AJ I can get it flat on the floor no problem as the cable should be able to come out of the lever then down through the frame.
It all comes down to how far that rod protrudes. I am becomming a lazy prick and if I can leave the pipse on I will.

Mate give it a go, if you can't get it off then the pipes can come off part way through the job... By memory when I done mine there was enough room but I couldn't get to the retaining bolts on the housing with the pipe on...

You will have oil come out anyway. There is no need to drain the trans, but it's your call on that.

Cheers AJ still in 2 minds on it. If the pipes have to come off I would rather do that first and get it out of the road. But like I said I am becomming a lazy prick.
Ok good about the trans oil as I just changed it last weekend.

    good news
pipes do not need to be loosened at all, I did renove the heat shield as I thought the clamps would be in the way. I think I could have left them alone but not a bad think just to protect them, left on the side stand you do not need to drain the oil.
Yes you do loose a bit but not enough to catch and pour back in.
