Blueing of rear header

     Hi guys,

I just noticed that the rear header is "blueing" from the cylinder head to the first bend under the heat shield of the Heritage.

The bugger has done less than 1100 klms. Is this normal?

My limited knowledge tells me that this sucker is getting way too hot - even in the current mild Sydney weather.

    Any advice or suggestions?

    cheers Wayne

If I remember OzRoders advice it can mean the engine is running lean. If you don't like it you can clean them or get heat shields.  Personally I like the look.

cheers, thanks guys. Sounds like i need a tuner of some sort.

I get it that the rear cylinder must get hotter than the front, but why doesn't HD enrichen the rear cylinder mix standard (or do they)?

It must be a trivial thing to do in the ECM

I don't think even the best tuning will completely stop all discolorations of the pipes. Heat, metals, tuning etc all play parts. Most of us accept and enjoy the pretty colors...

hahaha Allde love that shot of the RT38 is it?

Thanks guys - obviously being a bit precious ;-)

I admit I'm not taking things totally gently with the thing. I wouldn't have noticed because it's under the heat shield but the colour reflects off the oil tank.  I do like the blue but realise it's a sign of things not completely OK.

Took the windshield off today and nearly got blown (lucky me) , off the bike in the Sydney conditions. Certainly went better and steered nicer with 10 kgs off the front wheel, or so it feels.

She seems to have loosened up a bit after 1,100 klms. Can't wait for my slip-ons to arrive from cycle shack but worried it will be even leaner.

... at least they sound OK on the 'net.

Yep that's the E38 sHr3d, Had one of those, awesome car.
Exhaust sounds great to, did you notice $250.00 US for postage, if you could wait for a while, you might be able to place an order through Chopaweeza, possibly save some Money.

     Hi Allde,

I'm jealous you had one! Yeah I loved that car too, a friend had one and got about 6-8 mpg  I think.  Always nice to have something different to the old Holdens or Fords - a real tough car.

Yeah they have expensive postage but I use a freight forwarder in the US.  American Classic Motors sent it for free to them in Florida.

The UPS shipping from there combined with a set of saddlebag shapers I bought only came to about $90 - still a lot cheaper than Screamin Eagles or something else here. I was surpised how good they sounded for a slip-on while I save up for a full system one day.

I'll have to keep Choppa in mind - had a chat once when I was thinking of importing a bike - very helpful.

    Wayne.
